An otherwise routine Saturday afternoon at the Daily Planet was interrupted by the appearance of an armed man. Employees of the paper were herded at gunpoint to the roof, witnesses also verifying a grenade in the assailant's hand. All hostages were released unharmed, one by one, until a lone Daily Planet reporter remained.
It has been reported that the gunman was dressed in the uniform of a World War II German soldier, and his demand was the presence of Superman. In a further bid to make his point, a Channel 6 helicopter suffered damage from a gunshot to the rotors. Before the crew could plummet to their deaths, Superman arrived on the scene, arresting the helicopter's fall and setting the craft and crew safely on the ground.
When the attempt was made to apprehend the suspected kidnapper, he detonated the grenade. Superman again saved others from damage, the only injury being of the suspect himself. The man was turned over to the custody of the BSA and remains detained.
