What: Cir-El and Minoke start learning to fly |
So, Carol dropped off Kit at home, and was about to head back to the park when she found out that Kit's mom was stuck at work late. She wasn't about to leave the kid home alone...so she went out for one more trip with the kid, just long enough to meet Cir-El at the park and reschedule. It was a bit complicated, but since she rescheduled...and it involved flying, it was -definitely- time to contact Tiffa... er.. Flurry, right Flurry. So, that was a couple days ago. Plus.. Carol wasn't in the best mood after meeting someone with -that- Doom name.
So, Friday evening it is, Kit's covered, her mom is with her, and Carol is in the park waiting at the time she told Cir -and- Flurry. She's in uniform of course, and has the hot dog cart owner nearby. After all, gotta eat, right? She's sitting on a bench, chatting with the vendor as she munches on a dog... when people may be arriving.
Cir-El arrived in her Red and Blue suit, not the black and blue one she wore Tuesday. She was running when strait travel was possible and leaping over obstacles, not flying.
She comments to Carol, "I am considering getting my cape modified into a paraglider so that I can glide with it, then I will have an easier time steering and keeping aloft without damaging things."
Looking up from her hot dog, Carol raises a brow. "Something to help with steering -would- be useful. Directional thrust would also help." she says. "Though, not sure a cape is really all that good for someone who plans to fly. It's... well, drag is bad aerodynamically."
Superlass says, "I am thinking something that is more like a hang glider when in use that way. Say put a front edge on it that stiffens and a harness to attach it so it acts as a wing."
BOOM! High up in the sky, several miles above the city. The light spectrum shatters sending colors in all directions creating what looks like some sort of sonic rainbow boom. For Carol it would be clear just what the cause of such a phenomenon is. For Cir-el... most likely not. A Streak of light can be seen crossing the sky past the circle rainbow. This is yellow tinged with pink.
"Oh, like some sort of deployable aerofoil. Yeah... that could work." offers Carol with a grin. "Though I might suggest some sort of deployable flaps for the feet so you can steer that way too. After all, planes do it with multiple wings and fins." And... then there's the Flurry approaching. Carol -sees- it, and not only that, she feels the energy signature. "Oh good, she's here too." she says as she finishes her dog and stands up. "So..." She pauses to study Superlass, "You generate force by emitting it from your hands, yes? You can't focus it from the feet?"
Cir-El says, "Not so far, but at least it is not from my eyes like most of my relatives, that would not work at all well." She looks in the direction Carol is looking to see what is coming.
Dropping at a fast rate of speed, The streaking fast girl comes sailing towards central park. She carefully slows down as she gets into the City's space, not wanting to blow out windows or anything. Carefully she continues her decent and finally lands. The black and pink clad woman with the yellow aura just glances up to catch a glimpse of her handywork before turning her attention to those around her. "Hiya Carol, how are you today? Oh hiya new chick nice to meet you too. I'm Flurry."
Gesturing between the two of you, Carol chuckles, "Flurry, meet Superlass. Superlass, my friend Flurry. I figured you'd love the time in the air F." yeah, she shortened it to the letter F because, why not? She suddenly decides you guys -need- call signs. So she will think of some. "Superlass here has just figured out how to emit force in one direction, to provide thrust in another. So we're gonna help her practice, cool?" she asks as she just lifts into the air. She cheats.. Anti-gravitons and all surrounding her form make flying like walking to her.
Superlass greets Flurry, "Interesting name, are you called Flurry because you control cold weather or something?"
When Carol takes to the air, Superlass jumps after, trying not to use her rocket blast until she is high enough not to damage anything.
Flurry smiles, "Cool. And F? Oh god please don't tell me this means I am official SHIELD member!" She laughs a little then looks over Superlass. "Interesting. Oh! Good! I didn't wanna stand around looking pretty anyway." She lifts off. The way she does it though is a discharge of photonic energy which she somehow still has from the last time she flew with Carol. There is a scary though... she hasn't changed back! "So then... What will it be CM Are we going to be going to upper atmo again? Or is it going to be seeing who will pass out first from G forces?" Someone was reading it seems.
"Whoa whoa, slow down." says Carol as she lifts her hands defensively. "It's back to basics actually." she looks to Superlass and says, "Okay.. anyone can fly top speed...fast is easy. Flying -slow- is the hard part. So, do you have a stall speed?" she asks, "What I mean is, do you have a speed where if you go so slow, you'll just stop flying? OR can you hover?" She asks this as she slows down to a crawl. Superlass frowns and concentrates, trying to hold her thrust steady and cancel out momentum so she comes to a halt. She can just hold herself aloft it seems, though balancing on her hands is a bit unsteady. She says, "I can do it, but probably should not try it near the ground."
Flurry shrugs and just hovers in place. Then she idly begins to float around Carol. She is showing off. "I had to learn really quick to keep my speed in check. Control is something Wasp and Pym were very careful to pound into my head. With my powers it's too easy to do a lot of damage. If I flew at top speed at a criminal... they wouldn't be in the life of crime anymore. They wouldn't be in any sort of life save for the afterlife." She states this with a knowing tone. Turns out she isn't as careless as she acts sometimes.
"I wonder if you can angle them outward a bit.. and help level off. It'd be useful if there were crosswinds." offers Carol with a tilt of her head. "You might not either F. Intel is always more important than effort. Knowing what you're up against is helpful." That said, she looks back to Superlass and shrugs, "I wonder if we could get Tony to rig up some sort of thruster harness that was powered by your energy... to give more fine control, but without getting in your way."
Cir-El replies, "Angling is easy enough, it is maintaining my balance I am having trouble with. I would rather not crash into the ground too often."
Flurry smiles to Carol, "This is of course true. Flying full speed into someone like the Hulk would result in me probably getting smashed. Still, Being safe is important too in this case. I mean I'm not insanely powerful but I could bring down a building if I am not careful."
"Don't forget there are people like Wonder Man. A man who's body is basically solid ionic energy. What do you think a body slam on him might feel like?" asks Carol to Flurry. That said she nods and studies Superlass. "Well, maybe you should try to hover less. Let's start some maneuvers. Ever do an obstacle course?" she asks, turning her head down to look at some of the trees in the park.
Superlass says, "I could probably take it, running into my Guardian or Wonder Man, but it would likely hurt me more than it hurt them. I am tough, but not really invulnerable." She considers the questions of an obstacle course, "On foot, sure. Never while flying...and on foot can be damaging unless I stay subsonic."
Flurry nods, "Exactly so how about I not fly full speed into people unless I know what I am getting into?" She laughs. "Isn't that the goal to begin with?" She smiles. "This is going to be fun isn't it?" She shutters at the thought of smacking into Wonder Man.
Grinning, Carol shrugs, "Well, there's a game pilots play. It's called... follow the leader." She eyes Flurry then and gives her a wink before looking back to Superlass, "So, see if you can stay on my tail." she remarks as she twists, rolls and goes into a dive. Sure, she doesn't go superfast, but not super slow either. She aims for a copse of trees where nobody appears to be hanging out by. It's about half a dozen of them, and she's going to do it like a slalom course...
Superlass considers, her best chance to follow is to gather some speed before entering the trees, and balance herself on one hand for thrust, and use the other for steering maneuvers. It will be tough, but her reflexes should make it possible. Cir-El tries to follow, and even manages not to take down any trees, but a few branches are not as lucky...
And right now, Carol is leading Cir-El on the ancient pilot game of... follow the leader, on a mild slolom course winding between trees in the park. Trees that have no civilians hanging out by them. Which.. is not the case afterward, seeing folks flying through the trees draws people like flies. Carol comes out of it and rolls to land while turning to watch Cir-El's ending progress. "Okay, so you've got using one hand to thrust while the other gives angled thrust. Glad I didn't have to suggest that one!" she announces.
Minoke Zavia walks into Central Park, humming happily as she looks around. She doesn't look up at first - doesn't know anything's going on... and as she walks through the trees... she hears a snapping of a branch as she looks up, to see a branch come down and hit her on her head! "Owwwwwie!" she yells, pushing the branch away, starting to cry. There's a red welt on top of her head, that secretes a bit of... red ooze that drips to the ground like a very thick blood as she rubs her forehead.
Flurry takes off after Carol. She is able to keep up to a degree, moving through the trees with ease. When she notices Superlass not keeping up she drops back. "try to focus where you discharge your energy. You can do it out of your hands, try out of different areas. You might surprise yourself."
Cir-El drops down and says, "Sorry Minoke, I was taking flying lessons. I am still a bit clumsy. Captain Marvel, Flurry, this is my stepsister to be, Minoke. Minoke, would you want to join us? You said something about shape changing"
Minoke Zavia just blinks, rubbing her head. "Hi... I'm Minoke..." she murmurs, still crying a bit, wiping some odd red goo off of her head that looks like very thick blood. Her scalp repairs itself. "Yeah, I can change shape. Why?"
Seeing the 'blood', Carol bites her lip, "Okay, I was just lecturing on intel. Remind me next time to do my own recon and make -sure- nobody's around to get hurt by my own hijinx, eh?" she asks towards Flurry as Cir approaches. But she looks to Minoke again and asks, "So, are you okay?" Flurry looks at Minoke and then at at Carol. "And here we have a lesson in what not to do!" She winks at Carol before looking over Minoke's wound. "That isn't normal blood. Does anyone got some sort of fire? A lighter? match? Something like that?"
Lifting a hand, Carol shrugs as heat emenates from her fingertips.
Flurry quickly brings her hand to meet Carol's and the aura around her body turns orange and heat begins pouring out of her.
"I was thinking you should be able to take SOME form that can fly, if we can just figure out which one, then you can join the flying lesson," Cir-El says.
She frowns and asks, "Fire? Why? I can do heat as well as force." She considers, "I do not think I can emit from anywhere but my hands. It has something to do with nerve density, only the hands and the eyes contain enough of both types of nerves to carry the signal...and I already know I do not do it from my eyes."
Minoke Zavia sighs softly. "I'm fine," she murmurs as it's all repaired. "That was just...ummm..." She shrugs. "That's what it looks like when I heal. It's not really a bad injury and it'll dissolve to dust when I leave..." she murmurs. It wasn't very much 'blood' anyway. "So - ummmm... I don't know much about flying... what kind of form would be able to fly...?" she asks.
Chuckling softly, Carol shakes her head, "I don't know. What -can- you become? Personally, I'm partial to jet engines and aerofoils for it, but.. I'm a fighter pilot at the core." She looks to Flurry and elevates a brow, "Why fire?" she asks.
Flurry frowns a little."I was getting ready to culterize a wound!" She laughs a little and snaps her fingers. Flames leap off of them. "I don't get to play with fire too often." She laughs. "I can fly to a small degree like this and any flights of fancy through the woods would result in a forest fire. Hit me with photonic energy please Carol and seriously... don't worry about hurting me.
Superlass says, "I am not sure about her range of changes either, Perhaps she can explain her limits a bit, so we can figure out what is within them."
Minoke Zavia shrugs. "I am a nanocolony construct - I can rearrange the molecules of my body as I see fit - mostly. Mostly I can shift to change to look like other people - I... I haven't been alive long enough to explore what else I could become... but I did become a realistic scale model of New York City once- long story."
"Nano... Pama.." remarks Carol softly. She shakes her head. "What about well..." She pulls her phone out of a pouch in her sash and loads up a few images of simple gyrocoptor type things. Ultralights with propeller driven thrust... and shows them. "Anything like this?" she asks.
And while the nano-construct -is- distracting, but hey... energy is energy. Carol holds the phone in one hand and eyes Flurry, "I really should let you suffer with fire." she remarks. Just when she thinks Flurry -may- believe her, she gestures with a pinkie and sends a bolt of power towards the girl.
Flurry smirks at Carol, "Do you really think I would be suffering? I just don't wanna burn down this cute woodland area." She waits a few minutes and then, Zap! She is hit with photonic energy. The aura around her shifts to yellow. She smirks and throws a little energy ball back at Carol. "Wow. Umm... Tony would have a field day with you. I didn't think that was possible. Nothing I've read ever eluded to anyone ever making a functioning Nanocolony."
Minoke Zavia nods. "I am the only one I know of - I was built in the 19th century by my mother who is a genius..." She gazes at the picture, blinking. "I could become that - but... what does it do?" she asks. "I... can't do evertying. I'm not good at splitting my mass, and I need a palce to put my haert-core - a three-inch sphere that has my... the center of my mind in it... so I can't go under doors..." She then blinks. "Your aura is different - how does that happen?"
"I doubt Tony could figure her out, if I understand her core processor is an enchanted ruby. Tony does not get Magic," Cir-El offers. She waits for Minoke to look at the pictures and try a flying form.
"Tony'd like to think he can figure out anything. But.. he is human." says Carol with a shrug, "Well... one sec." she then loads up you tube and shows a video of one of the thungamagoobers in flight. "There." she remarks. Then she grins to Flurry. ... absorbing the energy ball while rolling her eyes.
Flurry snickers, "My aura changes based on the energy I take in. Right now I am generating the same type of energy that Captain Marvel here. My powers change based on the energy I have access to. The only thing I can do without being touched by energy are light blasts, move fast, and jump really high
Minoke Zavia nods. "Well, I can generate electrical and magical energy at will, in discrete bursts if that would be of use," she muses. "Nice bracelets." She tries, very hard, not to pay attention to such things, because they're obviously a precious possession. "Very nice bracelets... ummm... so... ummm... here goes..."
She shimmers into red ooze, lowers and widens and changes into a flying car like thing - red, of course. Two glowing red spots for eyes are on the front. "Ummm... now what? Can't really move...?" She assumed the form very well - her voice comes from a speaker on the front.
"... Magical?" asks Carol, lifting a brow, "How do you generate -magic- energy, as a colony of nanobots?" Yeah, color her confused now. She shakes her head like a boxer trying to shake off a hard jab. "I.. uh, what?"
Flurry blinks a few times, "Magical? I haven't dealt with magic energy yet. That might be something to try at some point." She smirks. "Oh thanks. I've taken a liking to them..." So has SHIELD.
Cir-El has seen flying cars in the future she came from, "The areas inside the loops are rotors, they spin quickly on their axis to move air. Try seeing if you can spin them."
Minoke Zavia nods. "I am a magitech construct. I was made with both science and magic. I run on electricity and magical energy. If you want to try it, Ms. Flurry, I can. She then ponders as she goes quiet, thinking, as suddenly a whirrling noise comes from one of the rotors. "Oh, they do spin!" she chirps happily as she starts whirring all of them. "This feels so weird..."
"Well.. that's new, and it would -definitely- frustrate Tony." remarks Carol with a chuckle, "If magic is involved, all the rules are out the window, right?" she asks. "Okay, they -are- angled so that they push the air -down-, yes?" she asks. After all, just seeing a picture may not give the whole aerodynamics of it all. "If they are, then spin them faster and faster until they lift you off the ground."
Cir-El adds, "Try to spin all of them at the same rate Min, uneven thrust is unbalancing." She knows from experience.
Flurry Laughs and watches. Part of her is tempted to launch another little ball of energy at Carol but she doesn't. She is antsy. Constantly moving and wanting to do something. "Sorry... Lots of energy... Tell you what. I will be right back. I need to discharge in the worst way." She lifts off sailing high into the sky up to the upper atmosphere. A few moments and she is completely out of sight. Where is she? Oh she is taking a look at Earth from SPACE!!!!
Minoke Zavia would nod - but she doesn't have a neck. She just whirs the rotors faster and faster... and suddenly she starts to lift off the ground. She eeeeeps as she lifts off, uneven, wobbling back and forth... gets to about twenty feet... then shrieks as she somehow flips upside down and starts to fall. "Noooooo.... helppppp!" she shrieks, scared.
Cir-El may not be quite as fast as Superman, but she is fast enough to catch Minoke before she hits the ground. She comments, "I did about the same thing the first time, but a lot higher up before I came down."
- BOOM*
A ring rainbow explodes outward in the upper atmosphere that can definitely be seen from the ground. A few moments later, Flurry lands. "Ahhh better. The problem with this... I have a lot of energy. Like I could go for a day or two without having to force my body to rest."
Minoke Zavia squeaks. "Put me back on my... ummm... what would you call those? Not feet....?" She is being held, upside down, by Cir-El, still in flying-car mode. "Oh - I think one of my rotors wasn't quite spinning the same speed..." all of the rotors shimmer red goo for a moment and reform. "I'll get it right this time."
Superlass smiles at Minoke, "That is why we both need lessons, so we can get it right. It will probably take me longer than you actually."
She frowns thoughtfully, "Can you do Sunlight Flurry? My charge will be exhausted if I keep this up too long, but I can recover if I have bright enough sunlight ro work with."
Flurry nods, "Yes indeed. I've supercharged kryptonians in the past." She releases some bright solar light energy towards Superlass. "How is that. I can increase the strength but the higher it goes, the more powerful it becomes and the more likely I will be to cause collateral damage.
Minoke Zavia just sits there, as a flying car. "So... should I try again?" she asks, hesitating. "And... ummmm... sorry for being a bother..."
Cir-El replies, "That should be fine, I am not using full power on these blasts, so I will not discharge all that fast. About twice normal intensity, one from you one from the normal sun, will do nicely."
She is not after a supercharge, just an even inflow and outflow of energy.
Flurry nods and continues to release the energy in a stream. While she is at it she looks at Minoke. "Try again. If at first you don't succeed try try again." She beams a little.
Minoke Zavia nods as she revs the rotors again - all at the same time as she wobbles off the ground a bit - deciding to stay at that level as the wobbles slowly fade and soon she's floating level a few feet off the ground.
Cir-El states, "My energy release is a bit destructive, I would rather not try to hover this low, it might damage something." While moving is one thing, the energy will not be focused on one spot long...and as long as the power is low it probably will not hurt. Staying over one spot is something else.
Flurry smiles, "You need to learn to control it. That is something I learned. When I first used my energy, I wound up blasting a good three foot hole into concrete. It takes time but I know you can do it.
Minoke Zavia starts to slowly rise in elevation. "I'm starting to get the hang of this - hey - I think there might be enough room inside me to carry someone..." She looks somewhat like a flying car but there's no glass there - just an open cockpit on a steel frame. "By the way - how do I move around other than up or down?"
Superlass says, "Your rotors tilt to provide thrust, I think." She decides to try her own downward thrust, making sure to spread it out so as not to get too much pressure in one place. The trick is to get enough thrust to lift without shooting up...
Flurry smiles to Minoke and nods to Superlass. "Change the angles of your props. That will get you to change direction and move you forward.. To control where you are facing use your rudders. Left will turn you left, right will turn you right." Then to Superlass. "Try it though. Pick a small target and focus on it. You don't need to vaporize it. You just need to hit it. Here may not be the best of places to do that though. Maybe I should talk with Tony. The Mansion is a pretty good place for training."
Minoke Zavia blinks. "Who is this Tony? Is that Tony Stark? I've heard a lot about him - I'd want to meet him..." She just floats there and tries, tilting her front rotors forward and squeaks as he starts to nosedive, and fixes it. "Oh - gotta tilt them ALL at once... I'm not used to this..." she whimpers as she starts to inch forward slowly with a minor tilt. "Rudders?" she asks. "Like on a boat?" She then finds them. "Oh. Those."
Cir-El says encouragingly, "You are doing well Minoke. Flurry, I think I will avoid trying to focus my blasts while flying for now, let me concentrate on maneuvering until I get the hang of it."
Flurry smiles, "Good idea. But do definitely train that. It will mean a lot less headaches later." She turns to Minoke and nods, "Yes. Tony Stark. He is a very nice guy. He is also rich and a genius when it comes to tech. That is why he would have a field day trying to piece together how you work. He is really kind. I've met him once and hopefully will again soon. I am wanting to join the Avengers."
Minoke Zavia nods. "By the way, Miss Flurry, if you want to try my magical energy, just let me know..." She continues to move slowly around - then figures out the rudders and slowly starts orbiting around a bench. She just hmmmms happily as she raises an antenna and starts listening to music as well. "Who are the Avengers?" she asks as she slowly floats around.
Cir-El has been reading at superspeed to learn the history of this timeline. She knows who the Avengers are, but she says, "Ask Bruce when next you see him, he has been a member for years. They are one of the greatest superteams ever."
Cir-El finds her fine control is still limited, perhaps because he does not use the Red Star Burst all that often and so has not het mastered fine control over her energy levels. This will not be a one lesson thing.
Flurry smiles a little. "You are doing well Minoke." At Cir-el's words she winces. "They are pretty amazing... Makes me wonder what I am thinking if I am trying to join up with them." She looks at Minoke. "If you want to hit me with that type of energy I will give it a try. What's the worst that could happen?"
Minoke Zavia hmmmmms as she lowers herself back down to floating by Flurry - then fires a blue beam of magical energy at her - as low power as possible. "Let's find out," she states as she beeps happily. "I'm learning to fly - I never thought it possible..."
Cir-El is glad she found something to make Minoke happy, but stands well back as Minoke tries exposing Flurry to magic. SHE can be hurt by magic...
Flurry is hit with the Magical energy. Suddenly her aura shifts to purple. "Well this is different. Can't complain about the look can I?" Suddenly her mind begins to take in everything around her. A whole different world opens up to her and it is pounding in her head. "AHHH! Damn What is this?!" She quickly covers her ears and tries to block her senses a little.
Having been busy... gotten a call from SHIELD about some insanity, Carol had to step away. She got back just in time to hear Flurry suggest magic.. and she lifted her hand, trying to interject. "Wait, what? No, no, magic is not something you should be..." and it's too late. She gets hit by it and Carol speeds over and skids to a stop. "Hey! You alright there?!" she calls out.
Minoke Zavia squeaks as she lands and shimmers into red ooze, returning to her base form as she kneels by Flurry. "What's wrong?" she asks. "You... I can feel magic coming from you - it's working... but....?"
Cir-El frowns, "She had too high a charge from exposure before, could she be overloading?"
Flurry winces as she slowly seems to steady herself. "If your maker has this type of energy coursing through her, I don't know how they function. I can see so much. It's like there are two different worlds laying on top of each other. One is ours. The others... It's really weird. Everything gives off energy... not like the kind I use... It's hurting my head to see. Things are talking that shouldn't be." She shutters. "I... I'm not ready for this..."
Cir-El realizes what to do. From observation thus far, Flurry can only duplicate one form of energy at a time. A small heat type red sun burst should break her out of magic mode.
