What: A Wind Golem disrupts Greenwich Village

Early evening and the streets of the village are starting to fill with New Yorkers are they finish for the day, combined with those who are always here. It's a mix of trendy upward young men and women, the artistic sorts that survive on what they could sell that day, and a few people that were either lost or new to the city. There's a wheezing sound above it all for a moment as Zack touches his vessel down neatly on a rooftop, before he starts down the nearest fire-escape. There's a slight stirring to the air, the cool wind stirring garbage from the ground and twirling it slightly over the ground as if picked up in mini-cyclones.

Cir-El patrols the city on a daily basis, getting close enough to every region to hear signs of trouble. There are plenty of supers around, so often she does not find any, or does not need to get involved. In general, she uses super-jumping on her patrols, not flight or speed. Her flying is still too dangerous (to others, not her) and speed does not grant as wide a view...not to mention she can not hear if she goes supersonic. At the moment, she is passing over the village...

And of course there's the quirky trendy types, and naturally the gay types too, whose bars and clubs pepper these needled alleyways and streets. The combination of so many effusive groups makes the Village a vibrant and often colorful locale. It's also a great place to get free drinks if you're cute and wear fishnet shirts, so Zachary Zatara, famous stage magician, is fairly often seen there. This time though, he's just strolling from some stylish cafe that makes healthy food delicious, munching on a little wrapper full of felafel balls. His eyes just happen to glance up. Huh. Well, he supposes, that's about par for the course, living in this city: super-people on rooftops and flying over. Most New Yorkers never look up that much, but he's not really a New Yorker, or at least doesn't consider himself one.

Jumping off the last layer of fire escape the wind catching and lowering him neatly to the ground, Zack frowns as he pulls a small compass looking instrument from seemingly no where. "Where did you go?" He mutters on his breath as he stands at the entrance to the alley way that he's in moving the device slowly. The little mini-cyclones begin to get a little bit larger as a skinny man whose face is all angles and hard cold eyes makes gestures as if he were conducting a symphony. Slowly but steadily he works on making a crescendo with his hands. The wind picking up with each urge for volume. The winds are cold as ice and seem to bite as the blow.

Cir-El suddenly finds herself thrown off-course by the wind. She adjusts herself for the new angle and fires a light Red Sun Burst to deploy her Glider Suit so that she will not hit a building hard enough to break windows...hopefully.

That's pretty funky. Definitely out of season. Zatara pops the last of the felafel balls into his mouth and chews, and with a flick of the wrist the wrapper he was holding them in vanishes into the breeze. Better follow where this is coming from...so he sets out on the trail, starting handily with where he noticed one of those super-types coming down.

The man jumps from the roof calling the winds to hold him midair. The sky begins darkening to his will becoming overcast from the force of his will. The mini-cyclones become monstrous creatures of air. "Find me five people, and bring them to me." He says, his voice a bit like the crumbling of paper.

Zack doesn't like seeing creatures of magic and air appearing from thin air. The needle on his compass began spinning like crazy from the man's magic. "Yeeesh. This is kind of crazy."

Superlass is starting to navigate in the suddenly much higher winds, when suddenly a strange cyclone-creature grabs her from the air. She finds herself spinning around with no leverage to escape. She could possibly break free by using her Rocket Blast, but the damage would be considerable. She elects to wait and see where the wind takes her.

Zach is probably going to be one of those people, whether or not he really wants to. He had hoped this would be more straightforward and less...well, less like it happens to have turned out, but he's absolutely refusing to just lie down and cooperate. Monstrous creatures of air, eh? We'll see about that! The young magician wears a smirk. "Sdniw esrepsid!" Best to try the simple, straightforward solutions that most super-types tend to overlook. Then, if that doesn't work, then we can get complicated.

Two of the creatures disperse like balloons being rendered. There were several others still one of them decides to go after Zach. Rain begins falling from the sky gently at first but picking up as time goes on. The man's clothing clings to his body as the rain hits him. There's a crash of thunder as lightning goes from cloud to cloud. There's more figures forming from a mix of rain and water.

"Lightning that graces all the reality heed me, strike those that would harm others." Zack says as he calls down a few bolts of lightning to hit some of the developing figures. His blue eyes react to the lightning. "Anyone want to take care of the man up there. He's sort of out of reach and if I try and fly, the other spells I have will be negated." He's really hoping someone else can take care of the guy in the sky.

Cir-El concentrates, her speed helps compensate for the spinning to some degree, she can aim, with difficulty. She uses her Red Sun Burst to release a beam of force which starts before the man Zack mentions and crosses his body. Superlass is glad of her super hearing, it is often er most valuable power.

Zatara hears Zach, but he's thinking that the other cape type will probably do a better job of tackling the man in the sky. "Once you've got him, bring him down here. I'm going to have a few words with him -- these pants are dry-clean only!!" He snips, openly annoyed at the sudden turn of weather. The next wind creature, however, gets a different approach. If he can disperse them so easily, perhaps he could also repurpose them. "Dniw erutaerc nrut dna kcatta ym eof!!" Which if he's lucky will allow Zach to contribute to taking down the jerk ruining his clothes.

Two of them explode outwards sending a white goo towards Zach and Zack. The red sun burst strikes the man his body seeming to prepare to ignite. His body warps and begins looking like if he was going to burn.

The goo hits a suddenly shield of earth that Zack calls up to protect himself. There's a lot going on. Zack frowns a little bit,"This is fake." He says under his breath. "Rip him to shreds! He's a golem."

That was odd, the Sun Burst was tuned for force, not heat, it should not be setting anything on fire. Then again, it seems likely this is magic...that she does not understand. Cir-El Decides to see if she can break out of this windstorm. She brings her hands together with all the speed and force she can manage, it should create a small sonic boom to disperse the winds...hopefully.

Oh no. No, absolutely not, no! Zatara scrambles out of the way of this goo. If there's any goo to be had flying at him, it's going to be on his terms and furthermore not on a public street, least of all in Greenwich Village. Fortunately he's able to get out of the way just in the nick of time. He's still not sure if his spell had any effect; he'd tried to make the wind-creature attack the...villainy bad guy. This may be why things went weird. "Fine. Golems, I can deal with that." Water trumps earth well enough. So! "Retaw mrof a nmuloc, ekirts ym eof!" The rain and moisture in the air should respond to the magician's command and, ideally, form a column to smash into this golem-villain.

The maelstrom is countered by Cir-El's actions. The water does hit the golem squarely,"Uhhh... No offense but earth counters air not water. Water counters FIRE." Zack says in his clear upper class London voice. He's busy trying to keep the wind monstrosities from reforming. "You focus on him. I got these guys." He says as he pulls his rapier out and skewers one that appeared close to him and throws it at two others.

Cir-El does not know magic, and she can not do real fire exactly, but heat she can do. Now that she is no longer spinning (even if she is free-falling) she can aim better. She focuses her Red Star Burst into heat and blasts the golem...

"No offense," Zach counters, a bit snippily, "but you *have* heard of the Grand Canyon, right? Better mud than sandblasting people's skin off, but then that's just me being *picky*." He'll redouble his efforts, hopefully in concert with Cir-El. If she can super-heat the golem, if he super-cools it, that should work nicely. "Ezeerf dilos!"

"Would that be your mouth?" Zack asks smiling in response,"But we're not talking the way chasms form here. We're talking metaphysics. Fire and Water are in opposition and Air and Earth are in opposition." He points out as he lets out a deep breath just as the golem bursts into flames and then becomes frozen solid, the air no long supporting him and comes crashing to the ground shattering into a million pieces.

Cir-El glances around to see if he wind has stopped. If the golem was responsible, it should have. If it was just another tool, like the wind wraiths, then we still need to find the source.

"It's not that simple. If you've studied any magic at all." Zach smirks, looking at...Zack. It's like oil and water, but really suspiciously similar oil with suspiciously simple water. "Which you obviously have. But we're not here to debate metaphysics. What was that and why did it decide to get all up in the Village anyway? Like, of all the stupid places to do this, Greenwich Village has got to be the worst."

"It was a wind golem. Not sure who made it but I will say that whoever made it, they weren't some pathetic sorcerer. They just didn't construct it with care." Zack says as he stands there in his black body suit and rapier. "It could have gotten a whole lot worse." He says looking towards Cir-El for a moment, before looking back at Zachary,"Did you use a spell to keep the chill off? It's surprising to find anyone wearing such things out when it isn't warm. Either that or you're vane and don't care about the cold. Either way... not my business."

"I do not know golems from goal-posts, but it sees to me someone has to be behind it. It is like a robot, right? So who sent it here and what are they doing," inquires Cir-El?

"My nipples could cut glass. Fashion is pain." Zatara glances skyward, reaching a hand out to feel how much rain there is around. He still doesn't seem too happy about that. When Cir-El speaks, he gestures in the manner of one accustomed to dramatic movement to illustrate his words, appropriately. "Fundamentally, yes. Golems can be as elaborate or as much automatons as they're crafted. But that's something I'd like to know too. Why here? Why now?"

"Well he was attempting to acquire five people." Zack says as he picks up one of the pieces of the golem. "As for why here, why now? It's Greenwich Village. A place of creativity. No doubt whatever they were going to do was going to involve something along those lines. I might be able to use this piece to scry for the manufacturer or ask my parents if they know anyone whose magic would work like this. I see the aura and the way the energy was sculpted but I'm unfamiliar."

Cir-El frowns, "So nothing else to do here for now, because it sounds like finding the guy is going to take a while."

"Well, we can at least introduce ourselves. I for one would like to pitch in and find out what's going on." The magician motions to himself, his aforementioned chilly chest. "Zachary Zatara. I'm not difficult to look up or find. I'm sure I've probably seen one or both of you around somewhere, but we haven't been formally acquainted."

"Zachary William Evingston III, but please call me Zack. I'm not difficult to get a hold of either. Usually I'm at the Hall of Justice training with members of the Young Justice League when not fulfilling my family's obligations." Zack says shrugging a little bit,"I will be in contact though. It'll be easier to do this in a sealed environment." He says as he begins lifting off the ground and flying back towards his TARDIS.

Cir-El states, "I am called Superlass, or sometimes Cir-El, and I have recently joined the Titans. I patrol the city regularly, and hear quite well. Call for me if you need my help, hopefully I will be able to do so. I am not sure we have communications set up at the Titans Tower yet." Superlass have met Zack before once or twice.
