What: Cir-El seeks Kon-El's advice |
Mia is wearing spectacles made of leaded glass, they may not be the best glasses in the world, but they are just what she needs for her vision problem. Right now, when she wears them she sees fine, when she does noit she sometimes sees through things...including people. Shazam suggested she talk to Kon, Karen, and Kal about the situation. She calls the Hall of Justice and asks for him when she gets off the train...super speed is out of the question until she is sure shewill not hit anything.
Kon's incognito today. Not quite secret ID but not broadcasting the 'Superboy' thing to the world. Jeans, t-shirt, leather jacket, sunglasses...just another guy in the park on the first official day of Autumn. He's on a bench near the statue he agreed to meet Mia at, backpack at his feet as he sips a soda and waits for Mia to arrive. He hums a little as he watches some of the people in the park, making a quick mental note to play a little super-fetch with Krypto later.
Mia soon locates Kon, her hearing is working fine. In fact, she got in some practice maneuvering using only her hearing by using lead lined eye patches in school, with an excuse that she was suffering an eye infection. It was slightly difficult at first to judge where inanimate things were. Wearing these glasses though, she can see almost normally. She walks over and says, "Hi big brother. Long time no see."
Kon arches a brow when Mia arrives, lowering his drink. "Hey...what's with the glasses?" he asks. He's noticed they don't seem like normal glasses or even the 'normal' ones he and Clark sometimes use for secret ID purposes.
Mia admits, "That is why I called, you see, I guess I am growing up a bit, Monday I started seeing through things, but not in a controlled manner. These glasses are made of leaded glass, so I can see normally. I am not saying it is totally controlled all the time, but sometimes I can not see the people around me without them."
Kon blinks a few times at this news, his other brow arching up too. "Wait...see through things like X-ray vision?" he asks. "Ya couldn't do that already?" that's news to him. "And you can't control it?"
She explains, "I thought I told you back when we first met, I only ever had super hearing before, not any kind of super vision. Not that super hearing is not useful, and I can probably use it in ways you can not because I have had to rely on it so much. So yes, X-ray vision, and I have not learned to control it. In the other world, your Analog did not have x-Ray vision until he turned biologically 17."
"Yeah...don't know anything about analogs but he's not me. Let's get that straight off the bat. Took time for a lot of my Kryptonian stuff to develop but yeah," Kon waves it off. "So how'd you first find out about the X-ray viz? And wha's been happening when you lose control?" he asks, since not being able to control it doesn't make much sense to him.
Mia explains, "For a while after I first was adopted, I lived next to my guardian. I had a 6 month lease, so I stopped by to pay the last month's rent. I stepped out of the building and bumped into someone I could not see. Fortunately Shazam was nearby and saved the man from being run over. He suggested I talk to you."
Kon just barely manages to fight the urge to roll his eyes when Mia talks about being adopted. "Run over...what? You knocked him into the street?" he asks. "And you just couldn't see him? You saw everyone else and everythin' else just fine?"
She says, "Well, a second later I could not see ANYONE except Shazam. I could still see denser things like metal and brick, but not people."
For a few moments, Kon just studies Mia. He's wondering if she's messing with him. "Okay...that...doesn' make any sense at all," he says flatly. "Were ya panicking or upset or somethin'?"
"Well, no...but I do think my powers might have activated early because of something that happened last week. I got split in two by a ray, into my Kryptonian half and my Human half...and my Kryptonian half was trying to follow Brainiac's programming. I think she used her vision powers while looking for something."
Again, Kon just arches a brow. "A ray from who or what? Findin' that out might be useful," he points out. "Our vision powers just take time and solar energy to kick in." She says, "That I know, it was from STAR labe, they apparently used it in genetic research of some kind. I say used because it got destroyed after I was put back together by falling out a window, or so I am told, I was unconscious at the time."
"Yeah, sounds like somethin' they shouldn't be playin' around with if its splitting people in two," Kon sighs, making a mental note to talk to Robin about STAR labs later. They need someone to keep an eye on them. "Okay...so, I don't know what's goin' on but what you're describing is nothin' like how x-ray vision has been for me or any of the other supers I've talked to. Like at all," he says, taking a sip of his soda. "I mean sure at first there was a couple...accidental skeleton views from what Supes told me and I saw through a few walls and doors I didn't want to but you sound more like you're talkin' about selective vision," he shrugs.
Superlass says, "My powers have always been a bit different. When you see through walls, what is it like for you?"
"Well, for one I have to think about doin' it. Concentrate and focus...and it stops when I stop," Kon points out. "I see through only specific parts or the whole thing dependin' on how much I focus too," he says. "How long has this been goin' on for ya?"
Mia sighs, "I told you, since Monday, about 48 hours now. Do you see like a shadow of a transparency of what you see through?"
"Makin' sure," Kon mutters. "And yeah, sometimes. If I don't focus and concentrate," he explains. "Or if there's like...weird energy or blocking stuff in it that isn't lead," he waves it of though. "I can tell ya how to deal with it but you're not gonna like the answer."
"Well, I will certainly listen," Superlass says. Not liking the answer, well that would not be a first.
"You're gonna need to take a vacation," Kon begins. "A few days at least. Because with our vision powers? Just takes time and not gettin' stressed out or upset," he says, letting out a sigh. "Preferably somewhere nice and sunny. Or at least under a yellow sunlamp. There's some eye exercises you can do too that'll help but there's no quick fix. Just have to be patient and not let it get ya out of sorts."
Cir-El says, "I figure it is mostly a matter of my nerves imprinting new reflex arcs, but you are probably right that it is mostly time I need."
"It's how it's been for all the rest of us," Kon replies. "Just be glad its not heat vision that's kickin' in," he gives a laugh. "That's a lot worse. But seriously...take a couple days off. Relax and get some sun. Especially on your face. The yellow sunlight'll help the nerves and muscles adapt."
Cir-El says, "I will probably never get HEA vision, because I have something else that takes it's place, and I am not sure about flying the way you people do either. I wonder if I will get Telescopic vision too? So far my x-ray vision is like I was looking through things from where I am aanding, nothing closer. Oh, I have microscopic vision episones sometimes too, but that is less of a bother."
"If you do start gettin' telescopic vision, its just eye exercise and rest," Kon replies. "Couldn't tell ya what you'll get...precognition isn't a thing any of us get."
"Well, thank you for the advice. I do not think 'just wait' is ever going to be anyone's favorite advice, but sometimes it is the best you can get," replies Mia.
"It's what Supes told me when my vision powers kicked in," Kon points out. "Don't worry about it. Just stay safe gettin' back home."
Mia says, "Well, unless you want to give me a lift out to Westchester county, I suppose that means heading back to the station to catch a train home."
"Normally I'd offer but I gotta head up to do somethin' for Supes. Promised I'd take care of somethin' Krypto dug up," Kon sighs at that. "I'll catch ya later," he offers as he finishes off his soda.
She suggests, "Feel free to mention it to Kal, perhaps he knows something he never discussed to you." She waves and turns to go.
