What: Superlass needs special glasses |
She made her way to town on the train, dressed as Mia Kent, but the one she needs to see only knows Superlass, or rather Cir-El, so she changes clothing and heads to the Train Station. She eventually reaches the Baxter Building and enters the offices, saying to the Robot Secretary, "Cir-El, wishing to see Valeria, could you tell her I am calling please."
"She's in lab three. She says to come on up." Whatever Val's doing, apparently, she doesn't want to leave it long enough to come down and get Cir-El.
Cir-El can hear where Val is, even if her vision is unreliable, so she follows the directions and lightly knocks on the door.
"Come on in." The lab's one of the smaller ones. There's something which looks like a straight up domino mask on the work bench. Val's scrawling equations on a whiteboard, or rather what looks like a whiteboard. Given one of the equations just moved, it's probably a digital display.
Cir-El cautiously enters the lab. Her eyes are, oddly enough, glowing blue. She is listening to the echos of her footsteps and judging where things are by sound. She says, I need a special set of glasses, you were the first person I thought of.
"What do you need?" She glances at Cir-El, peers at her eyes. "Your eyes are glowing," she adds, unnecessarily.
Cir-El says "It is a side effect, I seem to have awakened my previously latent vision powers, at least X-ray vision and microscopic vision, but I have very little control of them yet. I need some glasses to wear when I am at school, something that will let me see normally and NOT let others see my eyes are glowing."
Valeria Von Doom nods. "Well...hrm. Do you know how the X-ray vision works?" She's stopped scrawling equations and is now starting to rummage in a cabinet.
"Not a clue," says Cir-El,. Then adds, "Word has it, however, that it does not work through lead. I figure that old fashion leaded glass lenses will stop me from seeing through things, but the blue block is the problem. I had to wear lead lined eye patches today at school and claim I have an eye infection. I need something more versatile."
Valeria Von Doom nods. "Okay. Leaded glass lenses and...hrm." She rummages. "I thought I had some in here, but I think I must have left it upstairs. Grumble."
"It is kind of important, you know how dangerous it is to use my level of strength and speed when I can not see? I could kill someone and not know it...I almost did once already," Cir-El says, staying in place.
Valeria Von Doom nods. "Hold on. I'm looking for something. I'll have to tweak it." She checks another cabinet. "Aha. THIS is where I put it. And I'll need...I suppose we'll have to make them look like sunglasses. You can say the eye infection is making your eyes hurt in the light."
Cir-El nods saying, "That sounds reasonable. Probably can not make them look like the pair I usually wear, so an excuse for the change is good."
Valeria Von Doom nods. "Probably not. Leaded glass I don't have in here, but I know there's some in the building. Hold on." She unrolls a sort of film and holds it up in front of Cir-El's eyes. "Let me see here."
Cir-El can currently make out Valeria's bones, which is better than earlier when nothing less solid than a brick wall could be seen. She waits and holds more perfectly still habe a human can manage, exerting Kryptonian bio-control.
"Okay, that should take care of the glow. I'd ask if you can see through it, but I know the answer." Val grins and sets it down. "I need to get the glass."
Cir-El waits, hoping that whatever Val did will work, it probably will, she knows blocking specific frequencies is possible.
The blue blur probably signals them first before the sound of rapid footfalls and then Kaydin slows down enough to be seen clearly, nodding to Cir-el. "Hey. Looking for the little genius we all know and love." He says as he looks about.
"Oh...Kaydin! Would you mind doing one little thing for me?" She offers him a key. "Cabinet, outside lab one, I need the glass from the red box. Please?" Val flutters her eyelashes. MUCH faster to send the speedster.
Cir-El says, "I am sorry Kaydin, I can not see you at the moment...literally. please fetch what Val asks, it may help."
Kaydin nods as he blurs and comes back with the glass. "Remember that big red guy we threw across the country, the one that was kicking everyone's butt? He attacked the school I go to. They are looking to try and find a way to contain him." He says as he hands the glass to Valeria.
"I didn't see that...tell me more about it?" She moves over to the work bench, tugs out a set of goggles from it and puts them on before pulling out a grinder. "Don't get too close or grab a set of goggles. One or the other."
Cir-El's ears perk up, "A school? Think that they might be able to help me? Something seems to have awakened one of my powers prematurely, and it is not properly controlled. I understand a lot of mutants have similar control problems at first." She adds, "I wonder if my stepmother might be able to help with him. Brute force does not seem to work well."
"Tell me about it, he took out the front gates and atrium." Kaydin says as he gets a set of goggles and looks to Valeria. "Apparently there is big seven foot tall muscled up being who can destroy anything with enough speed, he seems indestructible. Took on Miss Marvel, Her, she hulk, Star shimmer and a robot lady at the same time, wiping em out. He attacked the school I go to." He says as he looks to what the two are doing. "Only reason why me and her stopped him before was a mixture of her super strength and my speed and all I think we did was piss him off."
Valeria Von Doom hrms. "I'll have to see what I can find out about him. I'm working on a costume," she adds as she grinds the glass. "School's boring," she adds. "Or I'm just smarter than all of my teachers."
Cir-El says, "You are right, school is boring. Especially for someone like me, who is mentally twenty-five times as fast on the uptake as an average student."
"Well not everyone can be a super genius or from an advanced alien race." Kaydin says sarcastically as he looks to Valeria. "Actually I came to ask if we can work on a costume for myself also. I am willing to run errands for ya in exchange." He offers.
Cir-El carefully uses her phone's speed dial to call Minoke's cell phone, it is a bit tough when she can not see the buttons. When Minoke answers, she says, "Hey Ruby, I am at the Baxter Building getting some glasses made, I had a question about your mother, care to stop by?" Minoke Zavia answers the phone. "About Mom? Ummmm. Sure. I'll be there in ten minutes. What floor?" she asks as she shifts to travel form and starts driving.
"That would be 30 I think, Fantastic Four Incorporated, ask the secretary to send you to Valeria," responds Cir-El
Minoke Zavia beeps. "Affirmative. Mr. Richards still can't figure out how I work - he refuses to believe in magic. Be there in 9 minutes, traffic permitting."
"I believe in magic, how else can you explain how icecream cake came to be: Gift from the gods." Kaydin says as he looks to Cir and Valeria. "So what is wrong with your eyes, if it is okay for me to ask. Also keep in mind I am one of those laymen you gotta dumb things down for."
"Okay. Kaydin, would you mind getting a pair of cheap sunglasses. I'll pay you back?" Because, speedster. "And Dr. Richards is SILLY about magic," Val adds.
Cir-El says, "For some reason, I started manifesting X-Ray vision yesterday, but not controlled. Often times I see through anything less dense than brick, including most people. I can focus it sometimes, and repress it sometimes, but most times it is not under control."
Kaydin nods as he blurs out. it doesn't take long and then Kaydin is back with a pair of cheap black sunglasses. "I would love to have x-ray vision." He says with a grin as he hands the sunglasses to Valeria.
Valeria Von Doom carefully takes them apart to remove the lenses, then goes back to working on the glass she has, fine tuning the fit. "I'm sure you'd want to control it, though. Also, you would use it to look in the girls' locker room."
The elevator doors open and a red-headed young woman walks out wearing a red dress, with red hair - and ironically, red-lensed sunglasses. (Think Cyclops's civilian sunglasses from the X-Men movie.) She glances at Cir-El. "Hey sis. Hey Valeria."
Cir-El says, "Hi Ruby. This here is my friend Kaydin, we have known each other for months. He said they were having trouble at his school with the guy in red Sola and I fought the other day, the Juggernaut."
Kaydin just grins and laughs. "Yea I would." He says with a snicker and he looks to the new red head and nods. "Name's Kaydin. Friend of Cir here. So your her sister, does this mean you are some sort of alien superbeing too?" He asks curiously.
"Thought so. And no, she's a robot," Val notes, as if she was informing Kaydin of Minoke's hair color. She's inserting the lenses into the sunglasses now. "Here, Cir...try these. I'll put the blue blocker on, but let's make sure they fix your vision first?"
Minoke Zavia glances at Kaydin, raising an eyebrow. "Adopted sister. She's adopted by my stepfather. I'm actually not an alien... yes, I am a construct. Ironically, I just came up with the idea of sunglasses myself to hide my eyes - not to fix problems but for... another reason." She lifts them so Kaydin can see her red glowing eyes, then she puts them back. "So they're trying to fix glasses for you, sissy, so you can see?"
Cir-El tries on the glasses, "Seems like they work, I can see almost normally now. It was my idea actually, but I thought Val was the best person to make them. We plan to put on a blocker, so that people do not see the glow either." She looks at Kaydin, "Actually, all three of us children are Constructs. I am just the organic one."
Valeria Von Doom nods. "Okay. Hand them back over and I'll add the blocker." She grins at Minoke. "Yeah, sunglasses are handy for that. Kaydin, were you looking for Cir-El or did you drop by for another reason?"
Kaydin nods to Valeria. "Actually came to find you, little genius. I need a costume which can offer some armor but allow me to still move fast as well as a set of goggles with different vision modes which can serve as a mask." He says to the woman and then looks to Minoke. "Yea, alot of people are not into the terminator look." He says trying to make a joke.
Valeria Von Doom hrms. "Do you have a sketch in mind?" she asks as she carefully adds another layer to Cir-El's sunglasses. "For how you want it to look?"
Minoke Zavia blinks. "Terminator?" she asks. "I... well... I just made self-referential Terminator reference just a few days ago - where I compared the similarities between myself and the character T-1000 physically..."
Cir-El waits for Val to finish, then she will want a mirror to see how the glasses look. She says to Kaydin, "Val is good at such things, she made my Glide Cape back when I first started flying. I still use it, when I need to fly without damaging anything and do not need speed much."
"So you can become anyone and make swords out of your arms? Neat." Kaydin says with a smile. When Cir-el states she is the organic construct he nods. "Constructs are people too, especially when they can kill me with their pinkies." He says as he blurs off and comes back, hands moving across a notepad before he shows her a hastily drawn version of the flash with blue where the red was with a set of goggles over the eyes to mask the person.
Valeria Von Doom hrms. "A little close to the Flash's...is he okay with that?" Because sometimes people aren't okay with it, some heroes can be very jealous of their schticks.
Minoke Zavia nods. "I can do better - check this out - I've been working on this." Her entire body shimmers into red goo and reforms into what a Doctor Who fan woudl recognize as a 'drone' Dalek. Her eyestalk focuses on Kaydin and in a Dalek voice (but still recognizable feminine), "EX-TER-MI-NATE!"
Cir-El rolls her eyes at the red Dalek and looks at the picture, "I saw something on the news the other day, this female speedster with an extradimensional Nazi
"He has offered me a blue version of his suit with the same ability his has: shrinking it into a ring. I just don't think I can get the goggles to fit in the ring." Kaydin says to Valeria. When Minoke changes to a red Dalek, he actually laughs and looks very impressed. "That is so awesome!" He says with a grin.
Valeria Von Doom ahs. "As long as you're in contact." She grins at Kaydin. "And I don't think evil speedsters are awesome at all, although I do wonder what would happen if I managed to catch one in a forcefield. I'll have to try it once I get centering them on something other than me down." Minoke Zavia just focuses her eyestalk on Valeria as she rolls towards her, plunger aiming at her face. "HOLD STILL, I WILL EXTRACT YOUR BRAINWAVES." She's moving very slow, and it's obvious she's trying hard not to giggle.
Cir-El says, "I could never figure out how something so slow and clumsy was supposed to be a real threat. Anyway, the point I was making was the helmet this Nazi girl was wearing.
"I really just want a set of goggles which can work as a mask." Kaydin says as he then nods to Valeria. "If you want to try an experiment we can do it when your free. I am still trying to get the hang of the whole phasing thing myself." He says to the girl.
"I'm already working on something that I can incorporate." Val grins. "Just let me know what vision modes you want."
Cir-El turns to Minoke, "Anyway, I was wondering if your mom knows any good containment spells. Physical force does not work well on the Juggernaut."
Minoke Zavia blinks as she shifts back to her normal form. "Juggernaut? I met him a few days go. He's very nice. He exudes powerful magic and his helmet's made out of no metal I've ever detected before..." she muses.
"Has anyone tried just lifting him off the ground?" Val offers Cir-El her glasses. "Should be done."
Kaydin just chuckles and snickers at Minoke saying she will extract brainwaves and when she shifts to her normal state he just scoffs. "He is nice enough to leave people bloodied and battered. Besides we don't even know if magic can affect this guy. He could be just as strong to magic as he is to physical force."
Cir-El tries on the glasses, and then checks in the mirror to make sure the glow does not show around the edges, "Looks good Val, how much do I owe you?" She says to Minoke, "As far as I can tell, Juggernaut is paid to do a job, and does it no matter who gets in the way. He can be nice if you are not in his way, but he hurt Sola pretty bad."
"Uh..." And then her phone rings. "Well work that out later. I have to go. Please don't break anything." She wouldn't dare leave them in Reed's lab. Hers is fair game.
Cir-El says, "So, Kaydin, tell me about this school. Do you think they could help me with my vision problem?"
