Agent Dum-Dum

Quote-open "You lily-livered, chicken-scratchin', pickle-pickin', pink-eyed son of a bob-tailed hyena -- YA DENTED MY EVER-LOVIN' FEDORA!!! I don't mind a guy takin' a pot shot or two at a fella -- but ya went too far this time!!" Quote-close

Timothy "Dum-Dum" Dugan was a founding member of SHIELD, a close friend of Captain America and Agent Peggy Carter, a leader of the Howling Commandos and a hero of the Second World War. Now, the 'Moustache with a Man Attached to It' is back. It is not widely known how this feat was accomplished, and the cover story is 'sciency stuff' (a serum). Very few people know the truth.

Whatever the case, he wants to get back into the fight one way or another.

POWER: Dexterity (4)

Dugan's reflexes are fast enough to easily dodge throw projectiles and arrows, but not bullets. He is much more agile than a typical human, if not quite 'superhuman', however. As for his running speed, he can push himself to about 30mph or so (Speed 1).

POWER: Endurance (3)

Back in his human days, his endurance would be about half of what it is now - able to go without rest for about 36 hours at full capacity before needing to recharge.

POWER: Healing (3)

The nanites in Dugan's body will repair minor damage in seconds or minutes, and can even handle moderate wounds - but extensive injuries would require a technician or bio-technician to oversee (and sometimes it is just easier to put him in another body). He cannot regenerate lost limbs.

POWER: Strongman (5)

As a human, Dugan was already a very, very strong man (hence the term, and his role in the circus). He could lift people off their feet with one arm, and throw them about. Now, as an LMD, he is even stronger (somewhere in the vicinity of 5 tons).

POWER: Toughness (4)

The LMD body Dugan inhabits is resistant to knifes and small arms-fire, but it will still take damage. Minor injuries will 'bleed', but anything more than that will reveal the enhanced circuitry within. For this reason, he still wears a SHIELD Kevlar uniform.

SKILL: Driving (6)

Dum-Dum Dugan is trained to use any number of vehicles upon both land and sea, or in the air. These days this refers to his beloved motorcycle, or any of the quinjets used by SHIELD. He is good at what he does, but there are better pilots around.

SKILL: Kabooms (6)

Demolitions are a bit of a passion of Dum-Dum's, as are big guns, big tanks He likes everything big. The man is an expert on explosives, as well as the use of anything else that makes things go 'boom'. This includes disarming such things as well (although using them is much more fun).

SKILL: Kapows (7)

Dugan is more 'soldier' than 'spy' but he has been in the field for a very long time, acting as both. He is a masterful agent, highly trained in combat - favouring Judo and good old-fashioned brawling for most hand to hand situations - a proven leader (a Howling Commando) and tactician. He is generally 'the muscle' or 'the big guns' on any given mission, the interrogator/intimidation factor.

Dum-Dum is a fine shot with any rifle or pistol, but prefers to get up close and personal.

SKILL: Linguistics (5)

Dum-Dum is fluent or near-fluent in a number of languages, having either spent time learning them himself - or had then downloaded into him as part of the conversion to LMD process, including machine-code. You last paged Peggy Carter.

Advantage: Life-Model Decoy

Dum-Dum Dugan is not human, but a 'ghost consciousness' inhabiting a machine, an LMD (life-model decoy). This android body is responsible for the number of enhancements to boost his natural abilities to superhuman levels (such as his strength, speed, agility, toughness and healing).

He does not need to eat, drink, sleep - or even breathe - but the LMD body is programmed to mimic all these activities. He appears to bleed and can feel pain, but extensive injuries would require a technician rather than a doctor to repair - should his self-repair functions fail. In the event that he is destroyed - he would wake up almost instantly in another LMD.

It is unknown just how many LMD bodies SHIELD has in storage for Dum-Dum to inhabit (when his current one is destroyed), but there are several. Should he die in the line of duty, he can come back. Each LMD is outfitted with anti-hacking software (but it is not foolproof), and he is resistant to telepathic control.

LMDs are generally advanced enough to withstand cursory scans, concealing the fact that they are machines. Detailed scans, however, will show the truth.

Advantage: Past Experiences

Dum-Dum's previous experiences and memories remain intact should his LMD body be destroyed and he is forced to 'reawaken' in a new LMD. He knows everything the 'original' Dugan knew, and all the things his other LMDs have as well (should he have to jump bodies).

Advantage: Shield

Dugan (the original) was a founding member of SHIELD and one of their greatest soldiers/agents. He has the resources as well as the respect of others in the organisation, earned from a lifetime (more than that actually) of loyal service. Dum-Dum likes guns - big guns - and carries several. He also wears the 9-ply Kevlar uniform of a SHIELD agent. Re weapons, Dum-Dum tends to favour:

pistol (damage 1)

shotgun (damage 2)

HYDRA weapon, Jezebel (damage 5).

Flaw: Anachronism

Dugan has only recently awoken for the first time as an LMD, so even with the false memories, the experiences of his human life, his skill-set... he is a man out of his time, and there is a lot of catching up to do. The 'flash learning' experience of being activated has covered most of this, but it is a poor substitute for getting out there and living it.

Flaw: Ex Machina

While his consciousness may be 'living', Dugan's body is just a highly sophisticated machine comprised of nanites. The fact that he is no longer human weighs heavily on him, and he hides it behind his razor wit - mostly. He is vulnerable to the influence of technopaths now, too (people who can control technology), despite some safeguards.

Dugan cannot seek traditional medical care because of what he is.

There are those (within SHIELD, and possibly elsewhere) who do not consider Dugan a person anymore. Some might even consider him the property of the U.S. government.

Flaw: Grizzly

On the outside. The wit and 'attitude' of Timothy "Dum-Dum" Dugan is a well-known facet of his persona. He has a knack for getting under people's skin, insulting authority figures (those who have not earned his respect), and taunting enemies into rages. Underneath it all he might be a 'teddy bear', but many people only get to see the 'belligerent grizzly'.

Flaw: Target

Dum-Dum has been around for a long time (in one form or another) and has amassed quite the array of enemies in his service to SHIELD. He has a target painted on his back, and he knows it - in fact he is rather proud of it. All Howling Commandos should be targets or they ain' doin' their jobs right.

Flaw: Vices

Dugan loves his cigars and drink, even moreso considering the stress he feels at being an android now. The cigars and the alcohol do not affect him as they would a human (no risk of cancer, or getting drunk), but his LMD form was programmed to mimic the habits and mannerisms of the original. He is predictable in this, and predictability can be used against him.

Timothy "Dum-Dum" Dugan was born in Boston, Massachusetts in the year 1912. His family had very little; they were Irish immigrants, struggling to get by. Dugan had always been unusually strong - an attribute maintained throughout a childhood of hard work. Partly to see the world, and partly to help provide for his parents, he seized upon an opportunity to 'make it big' in the circus.

As a 'strongman'.

Life, however, had other plans. With the threat of another "Great War" looming on the horizon, Dugan enlisted with the 107th. Earning the nickname "Dum-Dum" (through circumstances he never explains the same way twice), Dugan developed into something of a hero... right up until he was captured by forces loyal to Nazi Colonel Johann Schmidt - otherwise known as the Red Skull.

That is now Dugan met him. Steve Rogers. Captain America.

That is how the Howling Commandos came to be.

From that time forward, life was different - and yet, the same. Rogers led the Howling Commandos on mission after mission, right up until the time he disappeared into the ice. After that apparent death, Dugan took over leadership of the squad and proved himself a more than capable leader. He teamed up with Peggy Carter and the S.S.R (Strategic Scientific Reserve) on multiple occasions - an organisation that turned into S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division) just after WWII.

Dum-Dum Dugan was one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s founding members, and he served with them until he died in 1966.

Then, sometime later (the Present), he got better.

Unbeknownst to Dugan, Nick Fury (the director of SHIELD) had had Dum-Dum's consciousness downloaded (or copied) into a highly sophisticated android known as an L.M.D. (Life Model Decoy). The LMD was designed to BE 'Timothy Dum-Dum Dugan' in just about every respect - and, for all intents and purposes, IS 'Timothy Dum-Dum Dugan'. He was programmed to believe that he was simply long-lived by means of an experimental serum (the Infinity Serum), however the program didn't work quite as well as planned. Dum-Dum 're-awoke' in more recent times, but quickly figured out that his 'memories' (from 1966 onwards) were false. He know what he is, and is not entirely happy about it - but he is still Dum-Dum Dugan, and he is still a loyal soldier, a loyal agent, and a loyal friend.

Even if he isn't quite human.
