The City of Gotham Police Department is a state of the art metropolitan civil service, consisting of multiple districts and departments. As with every metropolitan police department, their purpose is to serve and protect the citizens of Gotham City. While it exists currently under the direction of Commissioner Jim Gordon, respected for his sense of justice and incorruptible stance, the department is still riddled with corrupted cops and questionable operations.

About Gotham City Police Department[]
Founded in 1820, the GCPD has long been steeped in political corruption, with a number of officers both high- and low-ranking involved in matters ranging from bribery to even more serious offenses, such as police brutality, mob activity, drug trafficking and murder.
Under the direction of Jim Gordon, corruption amongst the police force has waned, but it still presents a significant problem for the Commissioner.
Divisions[]
The Gotham City Police Department has a number of divisions that serve a specific purpose in serving and protecting the people of Gotham.
- Homicide Division: This division handles cases of murder and some of the more serious non-metahuman crimes in Gotham. Any time a homicide is evident or suspect, the Homicide Division is brought into the investigation.
- Major Crimes Unit: The MCU handles the most serious crimes, often involving supervillains, meta-human criminals or politically sensitive cases.
- Quick Response Team: The Quick Response Team is essentially Gotham's SWAT team. Many of their vehicles will actually read "SWAT" in order to provide a level of conspicuousity in the public eye; the official title is used mostly for organizational reasons.
- 13th Precinct: The 13th Precinct is a ruse. Not an official Precinct, this black-ops style division handles undercover investigation and apprehension operations in Gotham.

Recurring NPCs[]
NPC's, or Non-Player Characters, are a part of every MU*. This section can serve as a resource for documenting any recurring GCPD NPC's that you've used, or wish to use.
- Detective Benson: A member of the Major Crimes Unit. Most recently assigned to the D&G Chemicals case.
- Mark Hinsley: A patrol officer for District 1. One of the 'good cops'.
- Officer Smithson: A patrol officer for District 1. Heavy drinker, single, tends to hang out and cause drunken mayhem at Finnegan's Bar.
