Hope

It is unclear if the girl known as "Hope" was born in a possible future, an alternate reality, a possible future of an alternate reality, or something stranger and more complex than that. What is known is that she claims that where and when ever she's from, some thing catastrophic happened to all the mutants, and she was sent into the time stream with a guardian to keep her safe. She also claims that a second mutant traveled through time after them, in an effort to kill her. And if that wasn't strange enough, she traveled through time, jumping one far flung post apocalyptic future to another. Yet, despite that constant time traveling, it was the better part of 20 years for her. Only recently has she appeared in this time (and possibly this reality) from a time portal, without any obvious means of time traveling, apparently separated from both her protector and her pursuer.

Abilities

Gear: Uniform (4)

While it might not look like a uniform related to any known military or paramilitary group from this time, the uniform that Hope usually wears is just that. A scrounged up uniform from the future. This uniform not only acts as a form of light weight body armor that offers protection form things like guns and knives, but it also makes her harder to detect at range and provides some added protection against environmental extremes such cold and warmth.

Gear: Weapons (0-6)

While she rarely uses them, Hope does have access to a stash of weapons her protector/adopted father had in this time. These range from simple knives and hand guns, all the way up to high end plasma weapons that were actually originally designed and built in the future. Because of the potential implications if she used them (i.e. a younger/past version of her adopted father who may be in this time finding that some of his stuff missing) Hope is only willing to touch this stash as an absolute last resort.

Power: Mutant Mimic

OOC Consent: Hope can not copy another characters powers without their players OOC consent, or the @emitters consent in the case of NPCs at a scene.

This is the big thing. This is what Hope does. When a mutant is close enough (the exact distance is unclear, but 100 feet is considered average) she can create a 'perfect copy' of their power, and use it as her own. If multiple mutants are within range she can choose which mutant she wants to copy. All copied powers have the same limits and restrictions as the person she is copying them from (i.e. if the person needs an external device to use the powers in question, Hope does as well. Or if the powers need to 'charge' or require something to power them, she also has those restrictions while using the copied powers). It is even possible, in theory, that she could copy multiple people at a time, but that is only something that she would try to do in the most extreme of circumstances. Finally if someone moves out of range when she is mimicking their powers, the powers will fade away in a matter of minutes unless they move back in range.

Power: Power Stabilization

Staff Approval: Outside of the 'Five Lights' (should they want to RP out the manifestation and stabilization of their powers), this ability requires staff approval ahead of time to be used.

In certain RARE cases, Hope can stabilize the out of control powers of mutants first manifesting these abilities in an out of control manner. She does not consciously know how she does it, only when she does it feels 'right'. Also this only works on Mutants.

Skill: Askani Combat (5)

While never trained with the Askani's chosen weapon, the psimitar, she was trained by one of their warrior, her time traveling protector, how to defend herself. As such Hope can kick ass and take names not only in unarmed combat, but with some scrounged up weapons such as knives and poles as well.

Skill: Shooting (4)

While not the best, Hope was taught from how to protect herself by an expert soldier and gunman. As such she can handle a gun much better than most people would imagine. This goes for everything from small firearms, to large plasma canons. Unfortunately though this goes mainly for weapons that do not exist yet, as such she has no knowledge about how to repair or maintain most 'modern' weapons.

Skill: Survival (7)

As a child growing up where she traveled from one bleak situation to another, Hope learned to do what ever it took to survive. As such, if dropped into a situation where she had little (if any supplies) and she was far away from civilization, she knows what to do to continue on living, and possibly even thrive.

Advantages

Advantage: Askani

The only major language her protector taught her growing up, aside from English is the language of the people who raised him, The Askani. While odds are in this day and age there's relatively few people, if anyone, who speak it (since it is a language from farther down the time stream), it is something Hope can speak.

Advantage: Safehouses

Hope knows where many of her protector's safehouses either are or should be, and there's no shortage of them. Even being technically without a home, she's never wanting for shelter or weapons.

Advantage: Tactical Intel

While growing up in the future, Hope was taught by her protector about some of his allies and enemies, including real names, abilities, and other tactical knowledge. While mostly pertaining to the versions of those characters from her own universe that may not necessarily be 100 percent accurate to the versions that exist in the game world, it's still knowledge that she normally "shouldn't" have and an advantage she possesses.

Limits: Only applies to Marvel FCs from the main universe (not Ultimate) who have had dealings with the X-Men and/or Cable, good or bad, and only those who've done so prior to Hope being taken forward in time.

OOC Consent: This advantage requires OOC consent from the character's player or emitter in order to be used in RP.

Flaws

Flaw: 'Powerless'

Yes, Hope can copy the powers of other Mutants (and in some rare cases other superhumans). /BUT/ for that to work she has to have other mutants (or superhumans) within range. If there aren't any, or if they aren't 'compatible' then she can't copy any powers, thus in turn she has no powers that a normal non-powered human being would have.

Flaw: Culture Shock

While not really shocking in a way that it usually stops her in her tracks, the fact remains that Hope did not grow up surrounded from this time period (and possibly this reality). As such it is common for her to not get various references, ranging from slang, to pop culture references such as music, television shows, Internet memes, and the like. In turn this can and does make her come off as a bit strange and distant at times to others around her, especially when they make such references.

Flaw: Future Tense

Some people might think that the future for a time traveler is an open book. But in the case of Hope, it's not. To be honest, she has no clue if, or when her protector or pursuer will re-appear. Thus she has to constantly be on guard for either one. After all, when one wants to kill her and has been trying to for her entire life, and the other has been willing to die for her, there's a whole new set of worries. Worse, due to time travel she may very well encounter either of them in a younger state, where they may not even know who she is or what they could end up doing, which makes potential interactions with them even more complex.

Flaw: Inexperience

When it comes to using other peoples powers, Hope may be able to copy them, but she does not have any of the training or experience that goes with using them. As such she is never as good with the powers she copies as the person who she is copying if said person is experienced or has training regarding their powers.

Flaw: No ID

Simply put, Hope has not been born yet. She may never end up being born in this reality. As such legally she doesn't exist. She has no ID. What information that exists about her in any database is scarce and sometimes contradictory, and has only appeared after she appeared in this time. Thus if she ever needs to legally prove who she is, she's up a creak so to speak...

Flaw: Past Imperfect

For Hope, the past is the future. A future where things just kept becoming more on more horrific as time went by. As such Hope not only tries not to tell people about the futures she saw, and the one she came from, but she tries to find ways to change them so things turn out better for others. Unfortunately she knows this could very well erase her own existence. Worse as others find out when she's from and what she experienced, she can (and probably will) be pressed to explain what she knows. Which in turn is something that she can't talk about since there are /HUGE/ gaps in what she knows (like what actually caused any and all of the things in her past, ranging from what depowered all the Mutants to what rendered all the continents uninhabitable are all unknown to her).

Flaw: Range

Simply put, mutants (and in some rare cases superhumans) need to be in range of Hope for her to copy their abilities. While it is unclear what the exact range is, 100 feet is considered an average range that someone has to be in for her to copy their abilities. If there isn't anyone in range, or if they aren't 'compatible', then Hope can't copy any powers, thus in turn she has no powers that a normal non-powered human being would normally have. Also if she is copying someone else's powers and they move out of range, then the powers would fade for her within minutes (at best).

Flaw: The Long View

Like her protector, Hope knows that sometimes certain things must happen for the greater good of the timestream. Unlike him, she doesn't have a lifetime of experience or anywhere near the genius or foreknowledge necessary to make good use of that tendency. Sometimes she'll align with the "wrong" side in a conflict or set in motion events that'll seem destructive or evil because she believes it'll bear positive fruit in decades or centuries. And she'll be dead wrong some of the time.

Flaw: Unusual Education

While growing up, Hope was basically taught to survive first, and everything else was second. As such, while she does know some things like math and science, it was usually in regards to things she needed to survive. Thus in turn there are some pretty major gaps in what she knows, including things like History. In many cases these things could be considered things that others may have learned in school, as such they can be considered 'basics' or 'common knowledge' that she just doesn't know, and doesn't even know that she doesn't know.

History[]

In another time, not too far in the future...

In what may very well be another reality, not too different from this one...

Something happened to almost all the mutants. It was as if they all woke up one morning, and instead of their being millions all over the face of the Earth, there were just barely 200 mutants left. All the others just suddenly were no longer mutants.

There were no more mutant births.

There were no more new mutants manifesting their powers.

Just a handful left.

That changed with the birth of a single baby. One who was so powerful that her very birth overloaded Cerebro, causing the X-Men of this time and place to seek her out.

A group of mutant hunters, whose very hatred of mutants was their religion, learned about her too. They got to the town where she was born and killed everyone and everything in it to try and get at the baby.

She was rescued by a lone mutant, one who went on the run with her.

They were chased by that anti-mutant cult and the X-Men cross country.

In the end there was a battle. At the end the child was sent with her protector, a time traveler, into the future for her protection.

Unfortunately they were followed by another mutant. One that claimed her existence was a threat to the future of everything. He wanted to kill her. During an early fight between the baby's protector and would be killer, the protectors time travel device was damaged in a way that he and the child could only travel farther into the future.

The child, a girl who was later named Hope, was raised jumping from one post apocalyptic future to another. Growing up she experience a world were human sized bug soldiers ruled North America, a world where all the continents except for one were uninhabitable, where the majority of the last continent was rendered uninhabitable except for two cities, where the uninhabitable of those two cities fled into space, and even one where the last remnants of humanity were killed by aliens.

And all while doing that she was chased down by one mutant time traveler out to kill her, and protected by one who raised her like a daughter. Upon becoming a teenager, Hope manifested her powers to protect her protector. Around that same time he fixed his time travel device so they could go back in time.

Unfortunately during the return trip, Hopes would be killer still managed to follow them, even if they jumped backwards and forwards to random periods of time, thus creating potential alternate futures as they did so.

During the last battle Hope saw between them, she ended up separate from her protector and her pursuer, and was even shoved away during a time jump.

Thus Hope arrived in the here and now. Unclear if this is just the past, or another reality all together, or something else even stranger than that.
