Tatzlwurm

"I have the power of friendship!" -Niah, on her mutant ability.

Niah is an overwhelmingly hyperactive mutant with an imaginary friend. It helps a little, however, that her imaginary friend is a lot less imaginary than other girls' imaginary friends. While many people who know she's a mutant assume he's a psychokinetic expression of her abilities, he is in fact an independent creature fed by them, and is very protective of her. For all that, she's friendly, and a little obsessive over being a super-hero.

Abilities

Guardian: Conditional Courage (1/6)

With Mugwump as her guardian, Niah is practically fearless. Her belief in her Guardian's ability to protect her is absolute, equivalent to a Willpower of 6. This is only true when he is present. Otherwise, she can be quite cowardly (Willpower of 1).

Guardian: Mugwump-Flight (2)

Mugwump has the power of flight, and can easily take Niah with him by simply carrying her. This doesn't magically protect her from the cold, wind, or sudden acceleration, however, so goggles and warm clothes when traveling at speeds over 20mph to not suffer overly much. This is also not a particularly agile form of conveyance.

Guardian: Mugwump-Invisible

Mugwump is imperceptible to the visible spectrums of light and heat vision. This is not any kind of active field. In fact, it is extremely passive. Mugwump has no actual mass, as his physical body is constructed of force rather than matter. As a result, it does not block light, nor does it actually generate any heat. That being said, he's semi visible in rain and other clear liquids, and something as simple as 'throwing paint' on him will clearly display him. He does not generate sound in the normal human range by the simple act of moving, but he can make grunts, growls, snarls, and even
roars when he so wishes. He also can and DOES appear to abilities similar to sonar or echolocation. Hearing enhanced beyond the human range may or may not indicate his presence by a localized buzzing sound.

Guardian: Mugwump-Physique (6)

Mugwump has a baseline physique of six, including enhanced strength, dexterity, and toughness. These stats are based more on how powerful a protector Niah thinks Mugwump should be. Despite his great strength, ferocity, and durability, he is capable of a lot of gentility where his ward is concerned. In addition to his enhanced strength, his form contains claws and blades along the forearm. While not exceptionally sharp, they do provide a way to 'cut' when simply beating a thing is not practical (not actually more damaging than just punching it in his case).

Power: Psionic Lure (*)

The main function of her power is a sort of reflexive defense mechanism. Like an angler fish's light, it serves as a cross-dimensional beacon of psionic power. Its sole function is to attract beings that feed on psionic energy. When caught, her ability provides it with the ability to manifest physically. That's the trap. Providing it with said energy, once it begins to feed/attempt to manifest, it is locked to her, and compelled to serve as a faithful guardian to her well-being. Unless the being is native to this plane of existence, however, destruction only sets the thing free. She can have, regardless of power, exactly one 'guardian'.

Power: Psionic Resistance (8)

Despite a having the potential for a powerful mind one day, Niah's actual mental traits aren't incredibly more impressive than an average kid. However, she is almost a power planet of psionic energy. This acts to create a sort of 'static' that makes it difficult for telepathic effects to get through, whether or not they're beneficial, including mental blasts, telepathy-based mind control, and even telepathic communication. Powers and abilities that generate the same effects without using psionics (such as magic, for example), are unaffected by this resistance.

Advantages

Advantage: Mugwump

Her guardian and companion since a young age, Mugwump is evidence, himself of an X-gene active earlier than is normal. Having manifested when she was caught up a tree by baying dogs, she shares a special link with him. The creature always knows its distance and direction in relation to her, and will always selflessly try to protect her before any other action. When asked, she swears she can see and speak with him (she can after a fashion, as part of their link). While it will willingly follow most of her commands, and in fact bears some nearly parental affection for her, her power's nature compels it to put her well-being ahead of anyone and everyone else's, even beyond her own wishes. That said, it can only protect her from things it is aware of.

Flaws

Flaw: Coward

While she's practically fearless when Mugwump is near her, when he's away, she's basically a coward. She's prone to fleeing, cowering, or bursting into tears whenever even the least bit threatened or intimidated.

Flaw: Naieve

As a kid, Niah sees the world in black and white, and she's particularly naive at that. A 'bad guy' is bad and a 'good guy' is good, and there are no gradations in between. It's easy to get lies over on her, and she's easy to manipulate by the wise and charming given the chance.

Flaw: Psionic Beacon

Her power is designed to attract and snare normally non-corporeal psi-vores. However, she's still a pretty big psionic beacon to anyone who can sense such things. For corporeal beings that feed on psionic energy, she also makes a very tasty snack.

Flaw: Shiny!

Hyperactivity. She's got all the energy her youth would imply and then some. Rather than just provide her seemingly boundless energy, it more readily ensures she has very little ability to focus on anything for a substantial length of time. Many people find this irritating, as well, and makes for a relatively unreliable personality.

Flaw: Spinal Injury

Thanks to the spinal injury that basically caused her early manifestation, Niah can't get around without the aid of wheelchair.

Flaw: Weak

As a youth, and an especially geeky one, Niah isn't particularly impressive, physically. Her guardian does most of the metaphorical and literal heavy lifting. As a result, her strength and toughness are effectively 1 on their own.

History[]

At a very young age, Niah's ability was activated when some dogs chased her up a tree. She eventually fell out of the tree, injuring her spin and paralyzing her below the waist. Her power chose that moment of trauma to reach out and effectively snatch a guardian from the ether (well, the Astral plane). It chased off the dugs and stayed with her, keeping her awake and company when the paramedics arrived. They assumed her calm state was a result of shock.

While her parents were distraught, she adapted amazingly well as the young often do. With Mugwump to aid her, she never felt all that limited like some people doubtless saw her. He was more than a protector, he was a constant companion. While she does have other friends, she still considers Mugwump her greatest. Mugwump shows his own cunning and intellect, though his mind is alien. His entire concern seems to be for the girl's welfare and happiness. Whether it's wise or not, he's happy to indulge her in her dreams of superheroism.

Her parents have begun to grow rather wary of the fact that she STILL has an imaginary friend, but she's never been one to deny a friend. Even if noone thinks that friend is weird.
