Information
|
Name:
|
Winter Silverwolf Moontree
|
Winter, usually going by Rain, is the daughter of an equally pretentiously named hedge witch. By day, she tends to offer light and folk healing while trying to find a decent day job. These days, it's usually broomstick based delivery services. By night or whenever is convenient, she does the (usually) heroic thing. Otherwise, she's still trying to find herself and a purpose.

Background
Winter was born into the Moontree family, who were a clan of witches hiding behind pretentious names and things that seemed so new age they were just odd rather than actively magical. Okay, they even spelled magic with a k. Yikes. As a kid, Winter wasn't really expected to take up the family's mantle or even receive any of their powers. Talk about starting the cosmic life expectations bar so low they might've well just painted it on, then threw her on a trampoline so she'd bounce over it and go away. Regardless of the low, low expectations of her from her family, Winter proved to be fairly clever and resilient if something of a smart alec. She did do pretty well in school, and even managed to net herself a few scholarships for being good with sciencey stuff. It was working out pretty well for her, even if she was pretty bummed out about never being accepted into the great family secret while her siblings were.
Either way, she ended up going to college. And that's where things got slightly more surreal than Gary Coleman fighting crime while riding a giraffe.
Winter decided to go into Electrical engineering. Her family was pleased, as it would keep her away and busy. She made quite a few friends in the Anime and Sci Fi club. Trouble started at one of their meetings when one of the club members found a board game that was in fact, a demon summoning ritual guide for dummies. Long story short, they ended up summoning Phil, the demon who tortured people who talked on their cell phones and spoiled things for others (Oh man, he hated that). Apparently being around a rather displeased demon awakened Winter's powers and she ... set his shoes on fire. Phil was stunned. Who did that? Seriously. Who the hell set people's shoes on fire? That's just /rude/. He did however, offer her a future job reference, politely put his shoes out and took the board game. Phil warned them not to muck with the occult in the future. He didn't want to miss his favorite shoe, and really, punishing the college kids just seemed unfair.
Winter was both horrified and amazed. Her family wasn't thrilled, but they did teach her the ins and outs of willworking, as well as providing her with a small sum of savings and broomstick of her very own so she could make her way in the world. Since she gets enough Harry Potter jokes from the broom alone, she opted not to use a wand as a focus. Instead, she requested guns or something more practical. While her aunt almost offered a mystical chainsaw, she did end up buying a pair of guns to have them duly enchanted. Though, should she ever fight disgruntled lumberjacks, she will probably wish for the chainsaw. Winter trained while she could and ended up graduating with her Bachelor's. These days, she does odd jobs and trains when she can - though she watches her dwindling savings with a worried eye.

Abilities
Gear: Dual Pistols (1)
While she swears she's not compensating for anything, the truth of it is, Rain does in fact, have two pistols.
Power: Flight (2)
While it is magic based, Rain's flight involves a magic broom. She does have to take a moment to summon or conjure it up.
Power: Healing (5)
It's her best magic power! Rain's healing follows the same rules as much of her casting. It's will working and she doesn't give refunds if you sneeze and your arm gets attached incorrectly. You may however, hum Journey's Don't Stop Believing if you like.
Power: Magic (4)
Elemental: Rain likes to augment her ammunition with elemental magic, since it's a bit slow to bring to bear in combat. Still, she can perform some charms and control over it. Too bad she can't conjure beer or she'd be the life of the party.
Divination: Rain can ferret out stuff! Rain can find magic items and sense magic sources. It's useful for finding things and places of power mostly. Sympathetic ties definitely help.
While she may or may not eventually turn people into newts, Rain definitely is a witch (No pointy nose). Her magic is will working and hedge witchery. It's a bit limited compared to the rest of her family, but it is nice to set fire to the shoes of evil. Or something. While she doesn't need to chant or wave lobsters around, Rain does require concentration at least for a moment and her relics.
Power: Magical Aim (3)
Fortunately, she hasn't put her eye out yet. After getting a feel for her powers, she realized sometimes her magic was too slow for her to wield offensively alone, so she prefers to augment marksmanship with her magic. Largely, she's practiced - but she does seem to have a pretty good sense of depth perception and sight.
Skill: Marksmanship (3)
Well, someone had to say it. Rain is somewhat trained in using her guns, and may have even had to defend herself a few times.
Skill: Occult (4)
Despite having been left out of the family tradition, her family was wise enough to realize that Winter would need some occult knowledge to get by in the world. Rain was taught some of the ways of witchery and occult knowledge. This gives her something of a leg up when investigating magical phenomena.
|
Advantages
Advantage: Ambidextrous
Rain can use either hand for writing or fine tasks! This is precisely why she's able to use dual pistols in a fight.
|
Advantage: Engineering Major
Despite the massive cognitive dissonance of going from total science person to witch, Rain did in fact, major in Electrical Engineering. It means at least she's got a healthy amount of science under her belt and can repair some electronics to a point.
|
Advantage: Hocus Pocus
While her relationship with her family is somewhat strained due to the whole 'keeping Winter out of the loop and totally not inviting her to the cool kid's club when she DID manifest ability', Winter was taught and trained fairly well. She likely could ask again, though it wouldn't be easy or pleasant. Newts may even be involved.
|
Advantage: Scavenger
When life pours a soda over your head, find a rag. Living between towns and places has given Rain a talent for finding cheap food, temp jobs and just scraping by. She can /find things/ if she must - be it patches for clothing or dinner. This would apply to her ammunition, too...
|
Advantage: Spanish
Rain's picked up Spanish thanks to having gone to college and taken a few classes. While she's not -truly- fluent, she can at least pass a conversation.
|
Advantage: Street Friendly
Being a healer who'll work in exchange for food and laundry rights (Or even gratis as the case may call for) makes you friends, especially when you work on the folks who tend to rely on the ER for care or just can't afford something.
|
Flaws
Flaw: In My Pocket
Rain cannot cast without having her relic guns on her person. While one is sufficient, she cannot focus her magic to any useful degree without them. It is partially due to training and partially due to the nature of her magic. Rain will be reluctant, if not outright refuse to leave them behind or hand them over.
|
Flaw: No-Doz-No-Way
Rain's powers are will working. If she's not slept or casts too often too quickly, she wears herself out and requires some sort of break. Preferably one that's not one of her bones. Her magic will weaken and fizzle if she doesn't have energy and concentration.
|
Flaw: Transient
While she was given some money before graduation, Rain's resources are limited. She'll need to keep taking on odd jobs or something lest she end up starving or worse.
