Abilities

Gear: Old Armors

Although he scoffs at the suggestion that he's sentimental, Tony has kept nearly every old version of his Iron Man armors. They are all, generally speaking, inferior to his latest design, but they are all still in functional condition. Of course, without an Arc Reactor to power them, they are all largely inert.

These are primarily museum pieces. But he could, in theory, power them back up and use them again.-Note: Any 'Old Armor' used by Iron Man will be generally inferior to his current base model armor. This will be reflected in lower stats all around, and limited functionality.

Gear: Quinjet

Based on Wakandan designs, the Quinjet has become the Avengers' main mode of transportation. There is always one in standby mode at Avengers' headquarters ready to ferry the team wherever.

Useful as both a small group transport shuttle and as a fighter jet, the Quinjets are equipped with weapons and shields, and can hit speeds of about Mach 8 in atmosphere. Of course, they can also go into space...

Flight: 6, Toughness: 5, Forcefield: 6, Arsenal: 6

Iron Man: Armor (7)

The Iron Man armor series' latest iteration is Mark XLII. It is the most advanced and streamlined design so far, while simultaneously being the version with the broadest range of applications. Made of highly advanced materials, including a gold-titanium alloy, Iron Man's armor is extremely tough. It's also designed to direct damage away from the human pilot, allowing for increased rates of survival even when the armor is totaled.

The suit's life-support systems allow for a hermetically-sealed atmosphere with several hours of useable oxygen, an emergency supply of water and nutrients, and a very effective waste filter. Additional survival modules can be added for especially long missions or trips, extending the amount of time the pilot can remain in the suit for up to several days.

The latest armor's sealing systems allow for operation in practically any extreme, including underwater or in outer space. This makes some of his more specialized armors a bit redundant for most applications.

The armor has several advanced features not found in previous armors. Most notably, it can be controlled remotely via a chip synced up with Tony's nervous system. This allows Tony to effectively operate the armor in a puppet-like fashion within a limited range (Distance: 4). This allows him to send the uninhabited armor on a recon mission and enables its use as a 'dummy.' In theory, it also gives him the capability to remotely envelop an innocent bystander in his armor and pilot them to safety.

The armor is capable of separating into several smaller components, each of which can be operated independently. When this mode is activated, the individual pieces can fly to Tony's location, reassembling themselves directly on his body in a matter of seconds.

Iron Man: Flight (6-7)

The latest version of Iron Man's armor is capable of holding speeds faster than Mach 10 for prolonged periods of time. When the suit's boosters are engaged, the suit is capable of reaching escape velocity. By escaping the pull of Earth's gravity, Iron Man can allow the Earth to spin below him. This 'sub-orbital hop' method greatly reduces the amount of time it takes him to get from one end of the planet to the other, and reduces the stress that sustained flight would have on his armor.

Iron Man: Forcefield (8)

Iron Man is able to surround his armor in a protective field of electromagnetic energy. The forcefield can redirect large amounts of damage around the suit, greatly increasing the total amount of damage Iron Man can take before his armor begins to suffer damage. Unfortunately, it drains a lot of power, reducing the total amount of power available for other systems when it is active.

The forcefield automatically modulates its frequency, but it's certainly possible for someone with the knowhow to exploit the forcefield's frequency in order to either deactivate the field or possible create powerful feedback. It can also be temporarily dispelled by even a relatively mild localized EMP blast.

Iron Man: Gadgets (6)

Limitation: Iron Man can pull out no more than two gadgets per scene without using a push effect. These 'gadgets' can range from specialized weaponry to esoteric tools. Weapons can not be rated at higher than a 6 on the Arsenal Scale without prior plot approval.

The Iron Man armor hosts a dazzling array of specialized applications and gadgets. Tony seems to think of nearly everything, and adds modules to his armor prior to virtually every mission.

Iron Man: J.A.R.V.I.S. (5)

Originally an automated system tasked with organizing Tony's Schedule and doing household chores, J.A.R.V.I.S. has been integrated into every version of the Iron Man armor after the prototype. As a powerful operating system, it is capable of running virtually any application currently on the market, and many that won't be on the market for the next ten years. It's also a genuine artificial intelligence (Intellect: 5) that is capable of providing Tony with all sorts of valuable assistance. It even gives frequent advice.

There are effectively two 'pilots' in the Iron Man armor, and J.A.R.V.I.S. is perfectly capable of handling a lot of the suit's functions while Tony is busy focusing on other problems, or taking over completely if Tony is incapacitated.

Iron Man: Repulsor Blasts (6)

Iron Man's armor is propelled through the air by repulsors located in the armor's boots and gauntlets. These blasts can also be weaponized, allowing Iron Man to fire focused beams of destructive energy from his hands and feet.

Iron Man: Strength (7)

The Mark XLII is able to lift more than 50 tons under normal operating conditions.

Iron Man: Uni-Beam (8)

Iron Man can project concentrated energy from the RT Node in his chest. This is the most powerful weapon in his normal arsenal, but the energy drain and potential for collateral damage make it impractical as anything other than a weapon of last resort. One good blast from his 'chest cannon' can drain his energy reserves by up to 20.

Special Armors: Hulkbuster

Based on the Mark XLII, this armor was specially-designed for close combat with extremely powerful physical fighters. As it was created with the Hulk in mind, it is much larger and heavier than any of Stark's other armors. This greatly enhances its strength and toughness, but drastically reduces its flight capabilities. It's a tank, pure and simple.

Strength: 9, Toughness: 9, Flight: 3

Special Armors: HV Armor

The High-Velocity Armor is a heavily streamlined version of the Iron Man armor which removes many systems (and gadgets) and is incapable of being used in either outer space or underwater. It is designed for one purpose only: Maxing out its potential for speed.

Flight: 8, Toughness: 4, Strength: 4, Repulsor Blasts: 4

Special Armors: Space Armor

Similar in function to the Mark XLII, the Space Armor is specially optimized for operations in outer space. It can be used for long trips through space, allowing the wearer to survive for nearly a week without support.

Special Armors: Stealth Armor

A lightweight suit intended primarily for recon, the Stealth Armor is equipped with cloaking abilities that make it virtually impossible to detect by visual or electronic means (a Perception rank of 8 or above, or an equivalent ability, is required to detect the armor when cloaked). The power drain from the cloaking systems reduces the rest of the armor's functions significantly.

Strength: 5, Toughness: 5, Flight: 6, Repulsor Blasts: 5, Taser: 1

Special Armors: Suitcase Armor

As an engineering challenge, Tony created a stripped-down version of his armor that was capable of being 'folded' into something the size of a suitcase. The latest version of the Suitcase Armor shares the same philosophy, compromising virtually every aspect of the armor in exchange for extreme portability.

Strength: 4, Toughness: 5, Repulsor Blasts: 5, Flight: 3 (Max Range: 10 Miles)

Special Armors: Underwater Armor

Based on the current model's design, the Underwater Armor has virtually the same capabilities as the Mark XLII. However, it has been specially optimized for underwater conditions, and is capable of operating at the ocean's deepest depths for prolonged periods of time.

Tony Stark: Arc Reactor

In a cave, with only crude materials, Tony Stark managed to create a portable energy source that was literally decades ahead of anything on the market. Since returning to the states, he has updated each new version of the Arc Reactor substantially to improve the amount of power available. The current version would effectively power his life-saving magnetic field indefinitely. Unfortunately, his ideas for new Iron Man armors always seem to exceed the specs of the Arc Reactor...

Aside from keeping the shrapnel in his chest in place, the Arc Reactor is largely decorative when he's not wearing one of his armors. However, without it, none of his armors work.

Tony Stark: Engineering (9)

Stark is able to create elegant pieces of technology to solve problems ranging from the mundane to the extremely esoteric. Largely an autodidact, his fields of expertise encompass practically all of the known "hard science" disciplines. He is literally on the bleeding edge of technological development. To those in the know, he's considered something of a modern da Vinci. His designs often seem to straddle the line between fantasy and reality, but they always work anyway.

Well, they USUALLY work.

Tony Stark: Intellect (7)

Stark is often listed as one of the world's smartest men, and he has certainly earned the right to have his name mentioned in that conversation. A brilliant polymath, he seems to be able to understand technologies and concepts that shouldn't be possible according to the current "laws" of physics.

Tony Stark: Willpower (6)

Even when he was trapped in a cave with no possible exit, Tony Stark persevered until he could manufacture an escape route. He is not someone who gives up. If the situation is hopeless, he'll simply reshape the world until conditions are favorable.

But unfortunately, his willpower isn't quite strong enough to let him kick some of his less-attractive habits. Especially the booze.

Advantages

Advantage: Patents

Tony Stark holds the rights to hundreds of patents of designs he created (like the Helicarrier), and hundreds more that were created by his father or 'acquired' through business deals or legal wrangling. These patents are a source of income and have helped make his company the cutting edge tech giant that it is today. But the patents also him a vast amount of legal leverage, allowing him to tie competitors up in court on the grounds that they're infringing upon Stark's intellectual property.

Advantage: S.H.I.E.L.D.

For quite some time now, Tony Stark has been very active with the extra-governmental security agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. There are some who would argue that the tech provided by Stark International is what put them on the map in the first place, though there are also those who would say the exact reverse is true.

Stark can take credit for the Helicarrier's overall design and has supplied S.H.I.E.L.D. with weapons for years. His latest shift away from weapons production has changed the nature of his relationship with the group, but he still enjoys a high security clearance within the group and is an official 'Civilian Consultant' despite donating his salary to charity.

His roles as Iron Man and as an Avenger have very much complemented his role as a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. He works with the group whenever possible, often taking orders directly from the S.H.I.E.L.D. hierarchy. In return, Iron Man and the Avengers are more or less left to their own devices.

This arrangement also gives him a leg up when bidding new tech. S.H.I.E.L.D. is responsible for billions of dollars of Stark International's annual sales, and all indicators point to the two groups having a long and productive future together.

Advantage: Stark International

Although he has shifted his focus away from the weapons trade, Tony Stark's company is still one of the most important industrial giants on the planet. And it's also worth billions of dollars.

Flaws

Flaw: Alcohol

Tony absolutely refuses to admit that he has a problem with alcohol. But he almost always seems to have a cup in his hand at parties, board meetings, or when he's just chilling on the town or at home. He frequently even operates the Iron Man armor when he's under the influence. When drinking, his Intellect, Perception, Willpower, and Dexterity are all lowered by 1 to 2 points, depending on the amount that he has consumed.

Flaw: Heart

Yes, he has one. There's even proof. Unfortunately, Tony's heart is in a pretty precarious state. After getting a chest full of shrapnel, Tony requires a magnetic field to stabilize the metal shards and keep them from knicking his heart (or the connected arteries). This magnetic field is supplied by the arc reactor that he wears in the middle of his chest. So if he loses the arc reactor, or if the arc reactor is somehow depowered, the bits of metal in his chest begin to move, potentially causing serious damage. If he's left without power for any significant length of time, Tony risks a fatal injury every time he inhales.

Flaw: Leaks

As much as he wishes it were true, one man simply can't manufacture all of Tony Stark's designs. Stark International has proven vulnerable in the past to corporate espionage, and many of his designs have ended up in the wrong hands. With his newfound conscience he has taken stricter measures, but these slow down production substantially when enforced fully. As long as he keeps creating products, he'll keep finding his enemies wearing some of them when they fight him.

Flaw: Public Identity

Sure, he's got security guards and some automated drones to watch his back. But everyone with internet access knows that Tony Stark is Iron Man. His private residences are therefore targets for anyone wishing to kill off an old enemy, or steal some bleeding edge technology from the eccentric engineer. He's also held publicly accountable for everything that Iron Man does, and therefore vulnerable to lawsuits every time he puts on the armor.

And, last but not least, stock in Stark International takes a dip every time someone snaps a picture of him flying around in his latest armor.

History[]

While en route to a business meeting in a war-torn country, billionaire weapons manufacturer Tony Stark's convoy was attacked by extremists. The missile that disabled his vehicle also left him at death's door with a chest full of shrapnel.

Captured by the militants, Tony's life was saved by another prisoner who hooked an electromagnet to his chest to stabilize the shrapnel and prevent it from nicking his heart or arteries. Although he was in a remote cave and forced to work with obsolete technology, Tony was able to build a nearly-unlimited energy source to power the life-saving electromagnet.

When his captors demanded that he build a WMD for them in exchange for his freedom, Tony agreed. But instead of complying, he constructed a suit of powered battle armor with which he was able to escape captivity.

Back in America, Tony discovered that his captors had been supplied with weapons that he had designed. Disgusted with the lack of accountability and sobered by his own guilt, he decided to make it his life's work to undo the harm he had caused. To do this, he improved upon the design of his armor, and began destroying every weapon that he had ever created.

The stock of Stark International took a huge hit, but Tony was able to weather the storm with the support of his allies. Eventually, he transformed Stark International into one of the most exciting and lucrative tech companies on the planet. Though his old customers in S.H.I.E.L.D. weren't happy about his company's new direction, he found new products to sell them.

Keeping a secret identity in the modern age is completely impossible, so Tony never bothered to try. Instead, he announced at a press conference that he and the "Iron Man" were one and the same. Ever since that day, for better or worse, he has been extremely visible as an entrepreneur, inventor, and superhero. Proudly working with S.H.I.E.L.D., the Avengers, and the BSA, he is here to protect the world against misuses of technology. And whatever odd crises happen to pop up.
