Zap
"If you call me Valentina, I will break you." 
Having been on her own for a few years now, Zap has made her way to New York. She's street-smart and cynical, and will do what she needs to survive.

Power: Electric Resistance (5)
An electrical attack has little effect on Zap, as she can just absorb it and discharge it harmlessly, or reflect it back at the attacker. Reflection weakens the current by about 10 percent, and she cannot add power to that. However, if it is a particularly strong attack, she is not yet equipped/trained to handle it with no damage to herself, although that damage is considerably minimized.
Power: Electrokinesis (1 - 6)
Untrained: While her ability to use her own current has been refined through her adolescence, the addition of outside power sources can result in unchecked misfires. Until/unless she finds training she will not have full control for the energy she is able to pull in.
Zap has the ability to harness electricity and direct it. If there are no external sources around, her own body charge is no more powerful than a jolt from a taser. The more powerful the outside source, the more powerful the energy she can redirect.
Skill: Athletic (4)
Before her power manifested, Zap was on a path to competition in gymnastics. While her formal training ended when she was put out of her home, she has kept herself in practice and in shape.
Skill: Combat (1)
Untrained: If Zap were to find someone to help her learn, she would be able to refine and improve her fighting tactics.
In spite of gymnastics training giving her a slight advantage, there is no self defense training to back it up. She can throw a punch, land a kick and duck, but that's about the sum total of her fighting talents so far.
Skill: Light Fingered (4)
Gymnastics have honed Zap's body, and her years on the streets have honed some less savory skills. She's developed a talent for picking pockets, running shell games and is quite adept at almost anything that requires nimble fingers. While it's possible to catch her at it, 8 times out of 10 she's successful.

Advantage: Unobvious Mutant
While Mutant hatred is alive and well, Zap is one who can 'pass' as just an average human. There are no telltale physical signs of her mutation... well, unless she 'misfired', and that almost never happens any more. Almost.
Flaws
Flaw: Attitudinal
Being completely cut off from everything one has known since birth has different effects on different people. In Zap's case, she has grown hardened and uncaring, and she doesn't care who knows it. Kindness is a very rare commodity from the young woman, and she is more prone to ignore someone needing help than taking any positive action. She'd probably even take advantage of the situation for her own benefit.
Flaw: Homeless
Having been banished by her family, Zap is one of the many homeless gifted individuals on the streets of New York.
Flaw: Short Circuit
Water is not Zap's friend. A rainstorm or shower has little effect, although it can cause her to spark unexpectedly. Total submersion in water is right out, as it will short her out completely for several hours, even after thoroughly dry.
Flaw: Trust Issues
Her experiences have saddled Zap with monumental issues about trust, and even basic closeness to other people. The one person she counted on after setting out on her own only added to the issues brought up from her family, when he left her high and dry one night, taking all their money and the few meager possessions they had accumulated. As a result, she's vowed to never let anyone have that kind of power over her again.
History[]
Valentine's Day, the day for lovers as everyone knows. But sometimes it's also the day for squalling babies to be born and regretfully named. Which brings us to Valentina Montgomery.
She was a well adjusted child, growing up in a Mormon household in Ogden, Utah. One mommy, one daddy and one older brother. The child's interest in gymnastics was faithfully encouraged, and by Valentina's thirteenth birthday she was well on her way to making a place for herself in the sport, even being considered one of the favorites to go for Olympic gold.
Until the day that her power came to the fore. That pesky recessive X-gene chose the worst of times to stop receding. Valentina won first place for her performance in the floor exercise, standing proudly to accept her medal, but when she shook the presenter's hand, there was a charge that passed between them. More than simple static electricity, but weak enough to do no harm, it was first thought to be one of those weird things that happen. Until it started happening on a regular basis. And getting stronger. Doctors were consulted and none had any answers until they happened on one who was up on the new emergence of the X-gene and the powers that could come from it. Tests were run, specialists consulted, and it was finally determined that Valentina was, indeed, a Mutant.
Unfortunately, her family reacted the way many families have; by declaring her dead to them and casting her out. So began the life of Zap, traveling from place to place, never staying anywhere very long, begging and stealing to survive. It was no secret that New York had become something of a mecca for the 'differently abled' and the girl was on a steady path across the country to find somewhere that she might not be so much of a misfit. The once happy, promising little girl became a sullen, withdrawn young woman, trusting no one, fending for herself, and just trying to get from one day to the next.
