Languages: English

Abilities

Power: Dragon Magic (6)

Limitations: Gestures, Obvious%r%rDragonmage's magic, when used, creates illusory glowing Chinese dragons in solid colors. Said glow is a Light 4 effect. Where another mage might do a simple blast of magical energy, Jin's blast would appear as a dragon breathing fire. Outside of some simple self-levitation, this means any of Jin's magic effects are going to be noticed. He must also gesture with his hands to enable a spell, so if his hands are bound, he will be unable to use his magical abilities.%r%rJin is able to create bolts of mystic force %(Arsenal 4%), Mystic Shielding for himself %(Protection/Physical 6, Protection/Mystical 7 if used on himself, degrades to Protection/Physical 4, Protection/Mystical 5 if it's an area effect%), Self-Levitation, creating a dragon-illusion to ride to simulate flight %(he doesn't need to, but he thinks it looks cool, Speed 2%), Illumination %(Light 6%), and Levitation/movement of objects %(Strength 5, Speed 0 effect%)

Skill: Athletics (1)

Jin is physically fit. He has no superhuman physical abilities, but he keeps a constant exercise regimen.

Skill: Martial Arts (5)

Jin was taught hand-to-hand Martial Arts by Chu Hua to instill discipline, patience, and control, which Jin has incorporated into his exercise regimen, especially with his mystical abilities dampened in Takron-Galtos.

Skill: Multilingual

The New Shanghai colony, like all UP affiliates, has Interlac as their official language, but there is a strong Chinese heritage there as well, including knowledge of Ancient Earth-Chinese. Jin knows both fluently.

Skill: Occult (6)

Jin has extensive magical knowledge due to his training by both Chu Hua %(Master Sorceress on the New Shanghai Colony%) and Mysa %(daughter of Lord of Chaos Mordru%). He can do rituals for in creased effects, but these both take time and take a lot of Jin's personal reserves of energy to use.

Advantages

Flaws

Flaw: Bitterness

Despite his training in self-control and discipline, Jin still holds a bit of bitterness against the Legion of Super-Heroes and Live Wire. He was rejected from membership due to having sorcerous powers, and while other have treated him nicely (like Element Lad) in the past, he still feels rejection's sting. This gives him a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

Flaw: Cracked Confidence

Between his rejection at the Tryouts, and the damage wrought from his release of the Elements of Disaster (resulting in his arrest and imprisonment), Jin's confidence has cracked a bit. He is not as sure of his abilities as he once was, often hesistating before acting.

Flaw: Displaced

Jin has been thrown from the 31st Century into the 21st Century, and possibly not even his own timeline to boot. On top of that, he 'landed' in 21st Century America, so there are many language and cultural barriers to fitting in.

Flaw: Guilt

While Mordru's release was not his fault, the re-emergence of the Elements of disaster, and the cost they extracted from the galaxy in life and property is on Jin's shoulders, and six years after the fact still weighs heavily on his conscience. Preventing such losses again is a top priority for him.

History[]

Xao Jin was born in the 31st Century on the New Shanghai COlony, a United Planets colony with a majority population of humans of Asian descent.

At a young age, Jin demonstrated the inborn ability to harness and manipulate magical energies. However, his earliest experiments were often uncontrolled and highly damaging. He was found by the sorceress Chu Hua, who offered to teach him control and discipline. Hua was a strict taskmistress, but Jin was soon able to control his abilities, and gained confidence besides.

Jin journeyed to Earth to participate in the Legion tryouts as Dragonmage, confident in his magical abilities and knowing the Legion didn't have a magician on the team. Live Wire, having just come off of a battle against a Emerald Eye-possessed Shrinking Violet, rejected him from membership outright since Jin's powers were derived from sorcery. Angry (and a bit heartbroken, and a bit justifies at the sorceror prejudice), Jin promised to show them, show them all (tm).

On a journey to find more power, Jin encounters the empty tomb of Mordru, and releases the sorceress Mysa from imprisonment. Mysa warns Jin of Mordru's power, and the two journey across the galaxy. They find Mordru already battling the Legion. Jin's magic is no match for the Chaos Lord, but he survives and Mysa is revealed as Mordru's daughter and her youth is restored. She and Jin leave after Mordru is defeated, to travel the spaceways while Mysa trains Jin further.

Still power-hungry, Jin inadvertantly unleashes the essences of the destructive power of the four Western elements, collectively known as the Elements of Disaster. The Elements possess four mortal beings (including Dirk Morgna of Earth), and cut a swath of destruction across ther galaxy, including massive damage to Tokyo on Earth. The Elements are stopped and sealed away, with Morgna being the only host to survive.

Faced with the destruction and death caused by his own lust for power, Jin steps up, takes responsibility, and turns himself in to the Science Police. He is sentenced to the prison planet Takron-Galtos.

Six years later, a bubble of nothingness forms in the prison. Knowing not to tamper with things he doesn't know about, Jin tries to flee the bubble of warped space-time, but it overtakes him, throwing him diagonally across space-time, dropping him into the present day.
